Hi Angelo! Thanks for this video. Im really feel lucky when I was watching this. I was really shocked when I failed the interview though I have almost 3 year experiences as a BA. I have never imagined that I could fail with these kind of question. I lost confidence and felt disappointed in myself. But I feel more confident now and ready to take on the challenge. Better late than never. Thanks again.

Hi Angelo! Great video! So much to take from this. Can we use this set up for a 3 year Junior BA as well where in the end I can add things about my work experience? Or should I not talk about my college experiences at all and delve right into the work exp? Thanks
@AngeloTheBA
@AngeloTheBA 3 жыл бұрын
I believe the same setup should work. Basically tell me about the things about you that would make you valuable at this company. If there is something extremely impactful from your college experience, then its okay to mention it. However, if you've been working for 3 years as a BA, and what you did in college is the most impressive thing you could tell me about yourself, then it won't look good.

@@AngeloTheBA Hey thanks man for getting back! So the interview was this Wednesday and the interviewer started off by specifically asking for professional experience in Tell me about yourself! So I figured out the college gaming events and other projects had to wait while I filled that up with my 3 year work experience briefing. Interview went well, they liked me and had me confirm my salary expectations.. Got a call this afternoon that the director has canceled the position.. I was really excited about this one as it had the perfect blend of BA role and application support. Someone cheer me up man this has been going on for long now..

I have just graduated from university, and my major is finance and accounting. I did not learn anything like sql during my university, so I am learning those tools. Therefore, I wonder if you guys would expect us to know quite a bit about things like sql and ask us technical questions. If so, can u give me suggestions on how to prepare for the interview and the job? thx
@AngeloTheBA
@AngeloTheBA 4 жыл бұрын
Business analysis isn't by itself a technical job, however, some companies might want specific things, which I wouldn't be able to predict. I would get your hands on the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK) and familiarize yourself with the skills explained there. Specifically, the Techniques & Competencies.

Hello Angelo, thank you very much for this video. "Tell me about yourself" has been a difficult question for me because I really don't have any experience as a business Analyst. Upon graduating from my MBA program i decided to take a business Analyst training because I wanted to have focus path in my career. I worked on several projects in the course of the training but I still don't have any self confidence facing the job market. I get scared and panic just with the thought that I have to go through an interview process. Any advise for me please?
@AngeloTheBA
@AngeloTheBA Жыл бұрын
The examples I give in the the video are all examples of how I'd answers the question without having experience, so that's really the best advice i could give. You need to figure how to connect any skills or experiences you do have to how they would make you a successful BA. Relative to confidence, you should take some time to write out all the things that would make you a good fit for a business analyst. Figure out how you'd like to articulate every single point so that you can always draw your interviewer to your highlights.

Hi Angelo, Thanks for you insightful videos. How can one answer the interview question tell me about your day to day activities as a BA.
@AngeloTheBA
@AngeloTheBA 4 жыл бұрын
If it were me, I would start with what my purpose or value is as a business analyst, then I would go through the activities I do to meet that value as effectively as possible. Different people have varying approaches, so my answer isn't the only answer. The short version would be something like - My goal is to ensure that the team is building the right things, for the right people, at the right time. To do that I start by meeting with stakeholders, gathering information, and building out models. Then I have subsequent communications with larger groups for group discussion especially with needs that impact other areas or require prioritization until everyone is on the same page and clear on the direction we're moving. I'd probably dig a little deeper into the kinds of meetings or models, but that would be too long of a post (it's kinda long already as it is)

Hi Angelo, I have 3 years of sales experience and 2 years gap. Now looking to transition my carrier in to BA. Would able to suggest if I could apply for experienced roles in BA. ? Or entry level?
@AngeloTheBA

If your sales experience can be used to position you as a sales process or tool SME, then maybe experienced. Otherwise some coursework or certifications might help you skip entry level.

Hello Angelo Thankyou for the video it's really helpful. I've actually worked as customer process executive and I've done my masters in finance,can i move to business analyst field with this experience or do i need to do any certification. Can you please suggest your insights on this. That would be really helpful. Thanks.
@AngeloTheBA
@AngeloTheBA 2 жыл бұрын
It depends. If you apply to BA jobs were your experience would be helpful (Finance BA for example), you might be able to land the job without additional certification. In general, you can get a BA job if you can demonstrate the skills you have to succeed in the role (resume & interview). Certifications help solidify that.

Angelo what degree would you think is the most relevant or helpful to a career in Business Analysis Business Administration, Accounting and Financial Management, Economics or Computer Science? PS Thanks for the vids they're very helpful
@AngeloTheBA
@AngeloTheBA 5 жыл бұрын
Management Information Systems is the most direct major that teaches essentially business analysis. However, any business major with supplemental information systems courses would also be successful. Computer science may get overly technical so if you don't prefer that, I wouldn't go that path.

Angelo the BA thanks a lot for the response, I was hoping you could answer another question if you don't mind. I'm kinda of clueless on how to start being a business analyst directly, rather than transitioning from a relevant career? As most people I've asked seemed to transition rather than start off as BA's?
@AngeloTheBA
@AngeloTheBA 5 жыл бұрын
You basically have to apply to jobs looking for new graduates. Depending on where you want to be geographically or opportunities you get, you may have to take what you can get to get your foot in the door then transition into the role.

I have a questions; do you think an introvert could hack a BA role ?
@AngeloTheBA
@AngeloTheBA 5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Being an introvert or extrovert doesn't doom you to certain careers. Knowing just helps you understand yourself. I am an introvert, however I do things based on what I believe will accomplish my goals, not how I feel about them and over time the more you do something the more natural it becomes.

Why would I do a full blown introduction with my full name if you have my CV? I find that a bit weird, as you have mentioned, I;ve already passed some gates, you know the name of your interview subject. I may even find it a bit disrespectful if you EXPECT me to introduce myself with all the bells and whistles.
@AngeloTheBA
@AngeloTheBA Жыл бұрын
Here's why... 1. Your CV is a list of things you've done, but it doesn't explain why you did them, what you enjoyed about them, and how they lead to applying to the current job. 2. Interviewers aren't always given resumes ahead of the interview, so even if 3 people interviewed you before me, I may still not know who you are. 3. Like I mentioned, this question is as much for you as it is the interviewer, so you can say "everything about me is written down" and maybe someone out there will like that answer. 4. As a BA you'll have to explain your requirements and documentation to developers, business stakeholders, directors, architects, managers, etc. If having to explain your documentation to multiple stakeholders on multiple occasions bothers you then...
