I've had some money in the Squirrel monthly income fund (invested via the Investnow platform) since about the middle of last year. Its been paying the income every month (which I've had reinvested) no issues. Fee is a bit high but the return is pretty good if using as a replacement for savings account or bank's term deposits. Current yield on the fund is about 6.7% (after fees) and if you had been invested all of 2022, the yield across the year was about 5.7% (after fees). The Fund currently has about $9 million in it. Currently that money is loaned to 10 home loans, 57 residential construction loans and 136 personal loans. The Fund has a risk indicator of 2. About 20% of the fund's money is loaned for personal loans. Most of the fund's money is loaned for construction loans (77%). Most the loans made by Squirrel are in the A, B, C Risk Grade. Overall only about 4% of loans are in the D and E Risk Grades. The home loan and construction loans made by Squirrel (from direct lenders and the fund) has never had any defaults in the last 2 and a half years, and currently only 1 loan is in arrears. In the personal loans space the net default value so far for all the personal loans Squirrel has made since 2015 has been about 1.1% lost of the money loaned. That's been more than covered by the money set aside in the Reserve Fund. At the moment about 3.4% of the value of all personal loans are in arrears. Some of the value of the current outstanding personal loans are also secured against some assets of the borrowers. So that's some information that may help you decide for yourself whether you consider it a safe investment. You can find out more details on their website.

Yes it's NZ based. As for how safe, I'm not entirely sure how to answer that. Even banks default so I can only go for what's been working so far for me personally 😁

I guess I try to think about "is it too good to be true". Let's say hypothetically if I was running a business like this, would I still be making money? I've come to the conclusion that it is still possible (as a business) make money. I'd be very concerned with too good to be true claims of 20% or more returns with no risk. Not saying there's no risks in any investment but just invest what you can afford
