As a technician I can tell you three things 1-I have run those things plenty of times with the cover off. 2-I have never unplugged the capacitor to remove the fuse. 3-I have run tests on the unit, with a plugged in.... And almost blew my thumb off 🤣🤣🤣🤦🤦

Got my microwave working; it turned out to be the fuse after all. It looked good, but tested it with voltmeter and was blown. Thanks, Sir. saved me $$$.

Problem fixed turns out my microwave needs power

Disconnecting the HV capacitor like that is very dangerous, it should be discharged first. The usual reason for the microwave fuse to fail is worn/dirty contacts in the Door interlock switches.
@friwan8 ай бұрын
How do you discharge?
@spencerdasilva8 ай бұрын
@@friwanshort it out by placing something metal across both leads, but you have to have it insulated so that you’re not touching any of the metal. As in pliers with a handle, screwdriver with a handle, pretty much anything but with you not touching the metal.

Thanks for the share. The fix worked for me. The hardest part was finding the fuse, the first two box stores near me were out of the 20A/250V microwave fuse I needed. Hit a third a little farther away and they had it.

Wait. Why did fuse blow? Or does it have a shelf life?

Thats not mostly the problem...most likely it could be the Magnatron or Diode...
@RickDeckard22 ай бұрын
Mag and diode don’t cause hi amps in a microwave, just the transformer, and caps or bad switches opening out of order will blow the fuse
@friwan8 ай бұрын
Nervous about the capacitor. Do you pull out the conections in any particular order or way?

Hi, do you have an update on the Corolla oil burner 1zzfe motor? Cool microwave repair video.

I see there’s a few videos on this topic. When you say stops working.. are you referring to just the heating portion or completely Not working? My Hamilton beach stop heating food but would turn on just no heating of food. As of right now it’s sitting on my workbench following the instructions of this video but my fuse between the connection points is white with the red line around the middle. I can’t see if this fuse is blown but now,after watching a few videos I think it’s that heating element and not the fuse?

my fuse blew up and I replaced it with a 10A fuse and it is working, in your case, you used a 20A fuse would it make any difference between the fuses? Thanks
@FamilyFriendlyDIY5 ай бұрын
You would want to use the same size fuse as the original. If you go larger, it could cause something to melt or catch fire before the fuse blows.
@manuelmaravilla85064 ай бұрын
My microwave is the same; the fuse was good, still no power at all. What's next to check?

What happens if you turn it back on without the cover
@FamilyFriendlyDIY Жыл бұрын
Good question!! The cover is meant to help contain the microwave radiation. It's a Faraday box. It's also why microwave windows have the honeycomb-looking metal screen behind the glass. That acts as a Faraday cage.

I'm so mad, I bought new fuses, and it didn't work. Checked continuity on all three switches and they all function properly with continuity and checked the thermal fuse and that works too and it still doesn't work. I bought this thing new 4 years ago. Exactly the same set up too as yours. Probably a board I guess

What caused the fuse to blow?
@FamilyFriendlyDIY2 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure on this one DW. They can blow for a lot of reasons. It could have been from an external power surge, overheating, a part like that high voltage capacitor going bad (those are actually pretty cheap too), a faulty door switch, etc.. Unless it blows more than once within a couple of years, if there’s no obvious culprit, I just replace it and go. This on blew once before about 6 years ago.

More than likely the capacitor or door switch. I've been doing appliance repair for quite awhile. Take the advice from this channel. If it is the capacitor, call a qualified technician.

So when the fuse blow does it turn white! I see you have to different colour fuse, the one you install was gray

Big facts I just fixed my food cooker.. lol ☺️ If your microwave won't cut on, (do not throw it out) bring it to me or open it up and check for the fuse!! the fuse could be the problem in most microwaves.. #Iam_king_tweezy 👨🏾🔧 Tweezy the handyman services 🧑🏽🔧 Twezy Handyman
