I have made quite a few sets of these and it is now a GO-TO gift for people having a new baby...and family. Trying to make my family members environmentally friendly, one stitch at a time. I used the size 9.5" x 10" as it fit better on the stand-up roll for the counter. Also the tip of trimming the tip of the corners is brilliant! My 11 year old daughter is TOTALLY capable of this and she is learning MUCH more by making them than just sewing skills.

I made a pile of these a couple weeks ago using old towels for the one side and flannel on the other. They are really heavy duty. I love the idea of using the microfiber! My husband just bought a big bag of microfiber towels for cleaning so I am going to make some with them. And they happen to be my favorite color-yellow!

I am putting two poppers on one edge of each cloth I then pop them all together and wrap them round the kitchen roll holder it makes it easier to have on the counter for ease of use.

Your tutorials are great and I have learned so much from you! This is a great idea for using up fabrics. There is one thing I would like to ask you? Does it not bug you that your fabrics are wrinkly. LOL. I'm so sorry if that sounds weird but I guess I like to press everything all the time or it makes me crazy to have all those wrinkles. Maybe it's just me lol. Again I do love your tutorials! Thank you so much for all your hard work you do to teach us all these great projects!

Liz Turney Hehe it doesn't bother me. I know it would look better on camera to press first, but I film while the kids nap so time is often not on my side. If I spend time ironing first I usually run out of filming time. So unless I'm working on something where it really matters I just wait. I do however press each seam if I'm quilting, but that is super quick to do.

I like to press everything too and yet my guess is it's a personal preference perhaps :) I do enjoy the videos and learn a lot here.

One wonders if it would be an idea to sew diagonally from corner to corner, making an x, stopping it from ballooning when one swooshes it around it water? Fab idea though. I’m looking for more eco friendly ideas.

Do you use flannel on both sides or could you use cotton (quilting scraps) on one side?
@Whitney_Sews
@Whitney_Sews 7 жыл бұрын
I used flannel on both so Peyton can use whichever side she likes for wiping her hands, but you can definitely use quilting cotton on one side if you like.

I'm a new beginner just got a new sewing machine for Christmas and looking into videos to do a reusable paper towels and reusable pads just dont know much about fabrics or what material to buy...
@Whitney_Sews

In this video I used flannel. You can decide what size you want them to be then go to the store and pick a couple of flannel you like and buy a few extra inches. So if you want 10 inch squares buy about 15 inches of fabric of two prints. It will be about 15 inches by 42 inches cut. Take it home and hand wash and hang to dry to get the shrinkage out. Then cut the squares and sew. You will get 3 or 4 towels from those two fabrics which is enough to get some practice, see if you like them, and see if that's a size you like. Hope that helps

If you are a thrift store shopper and think outside the box you can find fabric for less then you would pay in a fabric store. Receiving blankets, pajama pants and men's shirts are all good sources for flannel fabric, and sheets are excellent sources for cotton fabric. A king size sheet gives you a lot of fabric for the cost.
