There's nothing like being a beginner drummer and learning your first song. In this beginner drum lesson I break down what I consider to be the easiest song on the drums. I have taught "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson to more drummers than I can remember. It's a fantastic first drum lesson to help you master your first song on the drums as a beginner drummer.

These guys on youtube make it look super easy. It's amazing how big a gap there is between practiced and professional and a total noob.

As a teacher for 24 years I learned very quickly that 'easy' was a relative term. The second you tell someone it's easy, it become hard. More pressure, man, and that you can do without playing the drums.

i also couldn't get drums because i don't have enough room for it and i'm also a guitar player:) i got a vr headset aswell and tried paradiddle but it's definitely way different than playing actual drums, i've started taking drumming lessons at academys and when my parents started seeing my process they decided that they would make room for it and buy me a drumset, trust me playing drums is way more fun than playing the guitar in my opinion and maybe that's because playing the drums is new to me? i still lovee the guitar though

Ive been drumming for around 2 years now, I never had the urge to want to play it, but I did. Now I enjoy it. I can't play most instruments because my fingers are rather long, ebndy and double jointed so drum was just about right for me. Although, drum does take a lot of effort, practice and slowing down, and even courage, its a fun instrument to play! I still count myself as a begginer, since I am still one. This was fun to watch.

From everything I can tell, theyre overdubbed. I used to teach that part but the way they overdubbed them makes this not a beginner song. And they're not necessary. So thats why they're not in there

I would at least mention them to a student, even though they may be overdubbed. It is a subtle effect, that always caught my attention, just like the unnaccented snare hit after the hats opening on the & of 4 as you demonstrated. Really gives the groove distinction. Great lesson!

I remember first song I ever tried on drums was paradise city guns n roses.. it's fairly simple...I got the basic techniques first then tried it. Getting the basic drum stuff drummers do everyday actually helps with learning actual songs cause u already know what to do... like doing 8 and 16 notes I'd get that down before even trying a song... like if you wanna learn everlong or any dave grohl you need to know how to do it cause it's at the start of the song.. but the actual notes is just a normal drummer technique.. beginners should get down.. the basics. If u go in . It's way too long u take so much longer to learn .

It's a fantastic first drum lesson to help you master your first song on the drums as a beginner drummer. A note about the chart from Tim Buell (who transcribed the part): "Hey all! You are 100% correct in the right way to write a multi-bar repeat. I do all the sheet music for Stephen and this is totally "my bad". In Finale there actually isn't really a way to write a "multi-measure" repeat beyond 1 or 2 bars that is A. Easy B. maintains the correct measure number count. Because of that, this is the "work around" although it isn't 100% correct. There is definitely a case to be made that writing a repeat measure for more than 2 measures can get confusing anyway, but this is just the quickest way to write the chart and the cleanest I've found for teaching. Most of the charts and transcriptions I do aren't really intended for "use on a gig" as much as they are deep-dive studying of source material and because of that I take some liberties you wouldn't normally see in any kind of "traditional" or "formal" scores you would purchase for contemporary music. Because, again, I'm assuming people are referencing the original recording before working from the notation at all - which isn't always the case with a score you'd get on a gig or in a live performance setting. Your video is great but to be honest, I've been a drummer of 40 yrs and have never heard anyone say "let's start with an easy one. Micheal Jackson it is!!!"😳😂 M.J.'s drummer is one of the top drummers in the world so to say that any part of any song is simple. You didn't talk about staying in the pocket and how important timing is. Without timing, you can play anything semi well. In order to play an easy song, you must be in time and timing is one of the most important aspects of drumming. I still practice very simple drum beats with a metronome to try and keep my timing as tight as possible. Like I said, really good teaching video but I missed hearing about timing being very important.🙂 👍🙏🙏🙏
