This month I try to learn how to play the drums in just 30 days.🥁 Subscribe for more skill learning videos!
►Total amount of time spent this month’s challenge: 35 hours
►Connect on my NEW instagram: @kizebae
/ kizebae
❗ If you have good eyes, you'll notice I had to re-record the ending audio and overlay it. It IS me playing, but courtesy of thin studio walls = bad audio, I don't own any of those fancy mics, and I'm working on a shoestring budget here, please forgive me trying to save money!
More info about the final take. Warning it's a bit of an essay: docs.google.com/document/d/1q... Hopefully my final performance mistakes can be forgiven.

BEHIND THE SCENES
I’ve always been an obsessive learner. I enjoy the process of deconstructing a skill and figuring out what would be the best way to learn that particular skill very quickly. On this channel I document those challenges.
You can see my final drum performance towards the end of this video, but my favorite part of the whole challenge were actually the days I was practicing the drums. Don’t get me wrong, hitting my intended goal on Day 30 felt exhilarating, but I also believe that there’s an inherent thrill and value in taking the time to pursue a hobby, and working towards incremental improvements on a daily basis.
I hope this video sparks two thoughts:
1) Becoming good at a new skill isn’t as hard as most people think. When was the last time you spent a focused full hour per day (or even just 30 minutes) practicing something for 30 days? I believe most people would be surprised at what they accomplish.
2) We live in a world full of specialists and immediate gratification - if a task is not visibly applicable to one’s job or is tied to a direct monetary value, we often don’t pursue it. However, I'd like to make a case for the the love for learning and the pursuit of improvement itself. I hope this video inspires at least one person to take on their own learning challenge.
What have you always wanted to learn? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comment sections below!

Thank you all so much for the +2M views! 😊 Y’all rock. I went back and forth on this, and it was noted in the description box, but I probably should’ve clarified through a comment earlier. More info about the circumstances of the final take is in the description box. TLDR it had to be re-recorded and the song’s backtrack is present in the final clip. On another note - to the fellow new drummers - don’t be discouraged if you don’t see results quickly. I sure hope you’re not discouraged by my accelerated progression. This was by far one of my best challenges, and I think I came in with some necessary subskills already. The world of drumming is amazing and the people in the community are awesome. From my personal experience, they’re quick to help you from day 1. I do no not make a single cent from this video, and I’ve chosen to leave it up. For what it’s worth, I hope all can forgive any of my performance mistakes, and appreciate the effort I put into this month. Hopefully this video ignites a spark in old drummers, and new drummers alike. Keep rocking🥁🙏

Lol your performance is solid, only some minor mistakes and differences. Thank you for clarifying again, but I really don't think you need to apologize. Keep your head up, and don't let the negative comments bring you down. This video has most likely done 100x more good than harm, and anyone who thinks otherwise could potentially be insecure of their own craft and skill levels. Your other videos are living proof of the effort and sincereness you take into every skill you take on. Thank you for a wonderful video Kize, and looking forward to what you accomplish next.

I’ll give her credit for learning the song. She’s definitely going through the motions and knows the notes, BUT…there are many giveaways that show the drums we are hearing are not her playing (cymbal chokes, bass doubles, accents). The drums she’s playing (the acoustic kit) don’t even have mics to record. Either way I’d like to hear the raw audio of her playing the song to hear the actual 30 day progress.

As a seasoned drummer and *attempted* drum instructor, this is mind-blowing to see how fluid you got after only 30 days! I tried teaching a simple rock beat to a couple students and it took much longer than this to develop the natural and relaxed playing style that you accomplished here. I don't know why she didn't just show us her legitimate take because it looked like she could play the song. I'm just really confused as to why she swapped the audio in post for a take performed by someone else who's better at drums, that defeats the whole purpose of the video.

I'm a drummer myself (but i wouldn't say i'm a pro, but still pretty good) and i'm sooo impressed of this. You just learned all this stuff i learned in probably a half year in 30 days. One tip i can give you is to relax your arms. Try to put them down to your body instead of lifting them up like you have to carry heavy bags on your arms. It will make it a lot easier to play complicated things and just feels more comfortable. Alsotry to get the stick movement out of your wrist and try to hold your arms still if you don't have to play loud. It will also make it easier to play complicated things and just feels better while playing. But well done!

@@hovergaming3403not wanting to troll you btw. You are 13? Who cares! Let's be honest, the market place of music that you should want to belong to is the one that enjoys your musicality and performances. Imagine yourself in thirty years time and someone shows you a talented drummer at 13 years of age with the statement"and he's only thirteen!". Would you not after all your time dedicated to your growth on your instrument not feel even a little that the criteria you wish to judge music by has nothing to do with the age of the performer even in the slightest. Imagine if I said were to celebrate your drumming and music now but always premise my commentary about you with a mentioning of your age? Won't you feel like I'm skimming over the fact that you are a musical talent and am using an external novelty factor as some kind of way to diminish your actual musical talents that transcend your age? When you are thirty will you look back and say, I was a brilliant 13 year old drummer and the next generation of 13 year olds are making my 30 year old self feel inadequate.,? I'm glad you are brilliant at such a young age. As a much older veteran, and I have no doubt you surpass my skills right now, I'm happy to advise you to transcend the age thing. When you are thirty like me you'll continue your passion and growth and no person or peer of your could ever show you a drummer much younger than will make you re examine your own abilities. Drop the age thing, miles Davis didn't play better in his youth and the public don't care about age when your music is great! You'll benefit from my advise. Own your drumming as your own voice and skill, your age of what makes you proud will make you quit when you are fifty because you began to think music is a Young's persons game. If that were true then explain away the rolling stones continued success today. Be your you g age now. Be older self years later. The constant should be your passion and knowledge growth. Please believe me on this

I hate how most people believe that she was the one actually playing the drums in the final part. it looks like you can play decently, but don't put the drums from the actual song as your own. I know most people in this comment section don't know how to play the drums so they can't really tell that the last part is synced. Here are some give aways: 9:07 she hit the symbol normally, but the sound was a choke, 9:13 she didn't actually hit the symbol, She dosent have any microphones for the drums. She can't play the drums exactaly to the song, so she just synced her drums to the drums in the song.

@@maijalematta8793 But like it doesn't make sense. Why not do the overdub correctly to match with what she played on video? If she really knows this song why did she play 8th notes in one version and quarter notes in another version. Why did she not make the choked crash cymbal match with her video performance? Why didn't she film herself for the overdub? It can be real easy to program a drumbeat off camera, and just say oh that was me playing. She filmed herself playing on the elctronic kit for the entire video but for some reason decided to not film herself for that last part? Kinda sus to me.

@Musical Spiderman Because her reason doesn't make sense. If she is working on a shoestring budget, why did she spend the extra time and money to film herself playing on a real set and then dub it with an electronic set. Also having thin studio walls doesn't necessarily mean bad audio, not using mics will make you have bad audio.

Being a Drumeo member I was lucky to be able to follow a bit of your progress and I was really curious about the final result. I'm blown away by what you did. What I like in this video is that you show your progress, your struggles and that you give credits to the people that helped you out. But what I like even more is that you promoted the foundation "Drumming For all" that gives people with less financial room the possibility to continue their journey. In my opinion that gives your experiment a way bigger value than what it brings for you as a person. RESPECT!

However.... why aren't we hearing your actual drumming in the end? or... if we are, why is there another track overlaid that is MUCH louder than your drumming? You clearly know the song well enough (a few cymbal hits missing here and there, that were in the audio?) so... I say be proud of what you learned to do within 30 days instead of hiding it.

This whole thing really doesn't sit well with me. I have been drumming a lot of years and one thing that could never be developed in 30 days is the pocket, tightness and dynamics/feel that we hear in this recoding. Now she may have recorded with her electric kit with samples but over all it's just to polished to be presented as authentic. Even visually her technique is not at a level that would allow for what we hear. I say all this not to trash her but to point out that once again we have an idea that someone can just go out and be great. How many kids or even adults look at this and think they can go and do the same thing only to be disappointed and left feeling worthless. I guess what I am saying is, show us the mistakes and/or changes that needed to be made, with the kick for instance. Given your 30day window you clearly learned a lot and did a great job working with what you had. just be real!

lol you got 7 years and still cant see or hear, its dubbed over and faked, you can tell by the cymbal choke sound but no cymbal was choked in the video, or the sizzle sound of the hat thats opened way to high to get the sound, or even the cymbal hit sound that was not video, i also read the description and i dont by it.. based on me playing for i dont even know how many years close to 20 i think? the high hat wide open sound and the sloppy arms giving off the dynamics of the cymbal and high hat its just so faked, also i know this was a promo for drumeo, not saying that you cant get good in 30 days cause i was able to play this good after a couple days, but ia lso have a talent for it and other musical background stuff

I love these "Learn it in 30 days" videos because it give me hope on trying something all my life, things I always wanted to do since childhood when it was time or financial consuming, also words from my parents that "you don't get a lot of pay doing that!". Now growing up and have my whole income and place, I can really give it a try! I don't really care if I would last, I'm not doing it for a career, but at least I can tell myself "Yeah, I did that!"

Im a drummer for 13years (I'm 23) this video is a scam, she does not know to drum, only learned to play this very song, but you can tell from her hand movements that she is not hitting the drums the way it sounds, she only imitates it, so its another person playing it (she does not even have a mic above her and the sounds are professional). Its like you upload a video where you lip sync to a song...

@@adamnemethofficial3095 Thank you for pointing that out. But like I said, I'm not doing it for a career, my outcome may even be "Nah, it's not my thing after all", but at least I found my answer and move on. Don't you have friends who pulling their hair out saying "Man! I wish I did that xxxx!!", I don't wanna be that guy. Thank you for your comment because I'm a non-musician, so being that, I don't know anyone who play any kind of music instruments, so it's good hearing from an expert. Cheers!🍻

As a drummer, I am very impressed with how fast you picked up considering you had only 30 days! Especially Runaway Baby. I learned it a year ago and it took 4 months to nail it. You took 1! Moving forward I would just say that you’re elbows were a little too high. That can get your arms tired. Otherwise, it was amazing. The coordination, fills, rhythm and timing was good considering that you learned these skills only in 30 days! Amazing ❤

Do it! I've been a singer for over 15 years and have an extensive musical background. But drumming pushed me to my limits, and challenged me in ways I couldn't imagine. Learning to play was the best decision I ever made! It's such a fun journey.
