As soon as you said 'jamun', it reminded me of my fav dessert: 'gulab janum'. The word 'janum' in that dessert refers to this fruit because it is similar in color and shape (though the size of the dessert dough balls is much bigger). This fruit is very popular in Konkan (west coast of India) -- also famous for its Alphonso mango. There are two types of flesh -- white and dark purple. The dark purple variety is sweeter. You can roll the fruit between your fingers and a hard surface to let the juices separate (inside the fruit).

It's one of my favourite monsoon fruits as its native to India. The softer and plump it gets, the less tart or puckery it becomes. Allow it to swell. I also chill the fruit that condenses the sugar and makes the fruit even more tastier.

omg tysm for this video!! SO helpful, you covered everything!! really appreciate showing container vs in ground. i just bought one from etsy but ive saved your link and will buy trees from you in the future. i have to keep my jamun (grown from cuttings, 2 yrs old) in a contain for a year...or i give it to my family and they can put it in the ground. the grower told me it could live forever in a 7 gallon bucket but as i do more research i dont think so!

I’ve had my jamun tree for the past 8-9 years and just last year it began to grow fruit. But it only produced a few fruit and the tree itself is like 40-50 feet high. Any recommendations for it grow more fruit next year? Gets full sun, water from drip system 2-3 times a week, and gets very lightly fertilized

I bought my java plum tree and planted it in my yard about 2-3 years ago. But it is a bit bigger than the tree you are showing at 4:04. Is that normal? It also has a bunch of brown spots on it, looks like rust?

plants are just like you and I, they are all different. As long as it's growing, it's normal. Brown spots after winter is usually due to frost damage.

Jamun is sacred for Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. Who eats jamun their organs don't get tired, they live forever young. There are hundreds of scientific research pointing the jamun tree is a complete drug store.
