Thanks, I appreciate the video. Anything wrong with using just plain sawdust as a potting mix? I know it varies a lot. The stuff I have is fine but not a superfine powdery dust. It drains quickly when I do a drainage test (in a few seconds) and holds moisture. Of all the videos on youtube about potting mix, nobody seems to use sawdust. I wonder why? It's cheap and readily available. Am I missing something?

Do you use staples or anything to keep the quarter inch tubing with emitters inside the pots so that they do not fall out or pop out? It does not look like it from your videos, but it is hard to see. Thanks.
@qctropicals8 сағат бұрын
I'll make an irrigation video but the emitters I use in my pots are called spot spitters. Stake is built into the emitter.
@cs77176 сағат бұрын
@@qctropicals Thanks! I saw one short video that showed someone using paper clips and bending them and using them as stakes to hold the emitters in place. This is so much cheaper because you can buy a pack of paper clips at the dollar store. I was thinking of trying that as it is so much cheaper.

citrus normally flower or not during the freeze, right? Unless, it's a late freeze into March, by which, if there are any fruits, they would be only just developed and dropped off by the freeze. I have never seen fully developed citrus fruits remained from previous year.

I have one in a 3 gallon container going on 4 years it's about 4 ft tall and fruit heavy I have replaced half the soil 2 times. And removed the top layer of mulch and replaced it. this is the first year I have pruned it both, for more fruit and to try and bush out this dwarf tree 😁

my lime tree is in container. If it gets lower than 30F several days in a row, I cover it up and pull closer to the house. If several days in the low 20, I bring it inside. If I left it outside in low 20 several days, covered it up, the branches still die back and come back from the roots in the spring.

What if half the roots are in good draining soil but the other half are constantly wet? Because I have some blueberries planted in aged pine bark and my land doesn't perc, the top 6" dry but the next 2ft in the soil are constantly soaking wet? Roots for blueberries shouldn't go past 18" so I'm wondering if that top 6 being dry and getting oxygen would be okay?

if your soil has organic material, the bacteria is already there.

@@qctropicals exactly! So, why kill it then? You can't actually kill them because it will come back as soon as the cause is not remove.. That's their role in all living things, as part of the life cycle. 🤔

However, i was worried about "over watering". After finding your videos I've really increased my watering especially on hot days and the tree took off. Crazy to think i almost killed the tree by not watering.

Love your videos sir, when you said that special soil and amendments are not necessary does that included citrus in containers? I’m currently using a mixture of coarse perlite, vermiculite, some bark and cactus potting mix to promote drainage in a large terracotta pot but am curious your thoughts on the subject of citrus soil.

I was gifted a Pakistani mulberry branch to grow. This is the second year. There are many branches and many leaves. It is very healthy. This cutting was taken from a mature fruiting mulberry. This the 2ndyear of growth, there were only 2 fruits. Is it possible that my tree is from a tissue culture? If so, I’m hoping there will be many fruits next year. If I propagate mulberry once it matures and fruits, will it also take 3 years for the cutting to bear fruits?

clay soil can benefit from calcium, to improve structure. hydrated lime thoroughly dug in, or calcium thiosulfate injected/sprayed. heavy clay soil can indeed kill expensive bought fruit trees etc., making small weak roots and finished off with wind or root rot fungus. i dig in a few handfuls of hydrated lime in planting hole for trees. it's cheap, even in bags.
