A very detailed explanation which would have been helpful back when I first applied tapes, (now off after a year) but I used narrow trim tape used in model building which doesn't require trimming

I think three tapes to start is plenty and then go down to 2 then 1 but the dots are really messy and confusing. It sure is nice to feel so in agreement with a great teacher like you

I used a thin Auto body painting tape. FIRST I used my tuner to find the note I wanted for the first finger and marked it with a pencil. then I slid my tape up there to the right position

I have real challenges with the C sharp on the G string, is it best to place a piece of tape so the finger can feel for it or just wait and wait until one day the 3rd or 4th fingers can find it easily going up or down or jumping to it from nowhere .... super video

That’s a tough note! You could place a tape there, so long as you don’t confuse it with your C natural placement. Alternatively, if you already have a tape for C natural (3rd finger in general) you could just measure a half step above it for the times you need to play a C sharp.

I've used also some car paint tape, it comes in different wides and its cheap. There are some violin tapes but are way more expensive, car tape works perfectly

Very helpful technique indeed. Taping had an issue with my playing when string touches tape, the tone becomes strange, sometimes sounds out of tune. Can you please also start a separate series on 2-3 octave scales in higher positions (4th or 5th positions), it's hard to find videos on this topic 😥, wanna be an expert in playing all scales in a higher position 🤗

I watched your video on scratching and I have gotten pretty good to get no scratch on an open string. However now that I started fingering on D this week all my scratch has come back. What does this mean? Do you have any videos on what to think about when you start first fingering and scales?

Hi Alex - Oftentimes when people are just beginning to finger notes, they will tense up since it is a new experience that requires much concentration. This can cause unnecessary pressure on the bow, resulting in scratchy sounds from the strings. Try to remember to keep both your left and right hands relaxed as you play, and you'll get a much better result. Good luck!

You have to train your ears to listen but it doesn't hurt in the beginning because it gives you confidence to know what you are hearing when you tune up your strings. But you have to take one or two tapes off when you're ready

I just switched from a full fingerboard sticker to a couple of strips of washi tape-- 1st and 3rd finger.
