I recently picked up your Megascript pack on Gumroad and have to say that I have been absolutely mind blown at that speed and precision of these scripts I can model and UV map anything !!!. I used to keep my model shapes very very basic because I struggled so much with UV mapping, These tools have been such a game changer !!. Thank you soo much Malcolm for taking the time making and offering these great tools at such a discount feasible for all Indi developers. Your video updates have been great and your knowledge of Maya is impressive, I learn something new in ever video I watch. Your video on "How to make Maya Start Faster" was such a HUGE help for me and your explanations on how the shelf works in Maya helped me setup my own basic scripts that I never thought was possible without fully understanding Mel script .. you have a way of simplifying things that just works. :) Keep Calm and Gridify on ! Bobby from Canada , Cheers !

Aha, so it wasn't just me! I thought the recUV ran really slow compared to the gridUV tool. Awesome job once again Malcolm!

Yeah it was painful, I didn't notice since I was only using it on sub 1,000 vert models.

Just a question, what happen if the model has some triangles? Is posible to straight uvs?
@malcolm34111 ай бұрын
@phoenixcorp2 No sorry, the tool doesn't work on triangles. You'll need to deselect those faces it will only work on quads.

Contacting me here is fine, but artstation is usually better to communicate. Send me an image of the issue you're having to malcolm341@gmail.com and are you using gridUV or recUV?

Looks interesting, is this included in the uv making toolbox
@malcolm3414 жыл бұрын
Yes it's included in the UV Mapping toolbox, the UV Mapping Pack, and the Mega Pack.

Hey man, I bought the whole pack and have been trying to get things to work, but I'm reaaally struggling with the workflow. Do you think you could do an example/tutorial video that shows how you'd use your tools to UV a variety of differently shaped objects?
@malcolm3413 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your purchase, which tool specifically are you looking for a tutorial on I have multiple videos for each UV mapping tool.

A quick question, why would you gridify when you have such stretch on some part(e.g. The bottom of the model)? I'm starting now to look at more professionals workflows and sometimes i'm puzzled.
@malcolm3414 жыл бұрын
Sure, gridifying saves UV space because UV shells pack better as squares/rectangles, it's easier to paint on in Substance Painter because you don't have to draw curves, it also reduces normal map stair stepping because the baked texture has straight lines instead of curves. For Omar's particular model that flares out at the bottom, he is actually texturing a sub-d model so that will be subdivided multiple times which will reduce stretching from what I showed in the video. In some cases gridifying is the best way, and in others planar maps work better, it depends on the shape and how much stretching is actually visible. I often go with a bit more stretching to get all the advantages of the grid, but it's personal preference.
