So why not use the controller on the treadmill? Need this for a manual meat grinder. Will it have enough power at low rpm?
@alchemy14 жыл бұрын
What about that coil that comes with it. Some call it choke. What is it for? Some folks of course use it. Also what about the blue wires on the motor. What value potentiometer did you use? Thank you.

I pulled my treadmill apart and have an mc-60 controller, but the output from the controller to the motor has a transformer in between. Can I just remove the transformer and go directly to the motor? seems odd to me but thats what im seeing in all these videos

What does the transformer do? It must be there for a reason! Please explain!
@Miner-494 жыл бұрын
@@bobby3hatwoodcarving925 It allows you to step up/step down power depending on source. So you can use your equipment on 120 or 240 volts.
@mattevans64802 жыл бұрын
If it has just 2 leads (1 winding) then it's a choke not a transformer, and it's generally to filter out higher-frequency AC from a DC (or lower-frequency AC) line. The motor will run without it, but changing speed feels smoother with it (i.e. changes more gradually).

where can I find that type of motor controller
@marciajesso84742 жыл бұрын
cannot find that type anywhere
@dazecars2 жыл бұрын
@@marciajesso8474 That is an MC60 they can be purchased on line. However an MC60 is an SCR controller at which point an aftermarket SCR will be just as good if not better. If you want to use a treadmill type control board the MC2100 is a better choice.

Thanks for the clarification, just please I want to know why it did not work with this process with me, the current does not drop below 105 vdc, I don’t know why, I want to know if I increase the size of the potosiomatre to 20 or more, does the current go down with me to less than 105 vdc or No, and for your information, the engine runs at 180 vdc. Thanks in advance for your help

Same concept as a scooter. Batteries run the motor. Charge controller charges the batteries (when plugged)

i get the speed controllers for free from old treadmills and they have been the mc2100 style........does it matter the wattage of the potentiometer? oh i see someone answered that 10kohm and 1/4watt or higher....awesome thanks

Awesome video. I need some help though. I have an MC-60 treadmill speed controller. I'm trying to eliminate the soft start and stop. Putting a switch from the board (red wire to the motor) gives me what I'm looking for but I am concerned about whether the board needs the load from the motor. Is it safe for the speed controller to run with a switch on the motor lead?

The older MC units, MC 40, MC 60 are simple plug and play. The newer controllers or those from treadmills with more frills use more sophisticated boards like the MC 2100 that requires a pulse width modulation input to work. There is a modification for these I found on the web that you can build - to make them work as well.

William, do you know about the MC 80 board? I'd like to be able to omit the treadmill control panel in favor of just a pot, but not sure if that is possible.

Is there a specific size pot to use? Would a light dimmer or a fan pot work for this without damaging the motor?
@maxprophet24015 жыл бұрын
Since he said 5k a few times I'm guessing you mean wattage. In which case, a 1/4 watt pot should be fine, a larger one wouldn't hurt but it doesn't need it. I've found a 10 k-ohm to be more common a provide better range control. Use the one from the treadmill if it has one. Dimmers could have one that may work but they can vary quite a bit and may not give much more than on or off in range. They're usually labeled

@@maxprophet2401 TY for the response. I'm usually doing other things while "listening" to YT. I found a 10k pot in my salvage, now just to put it all together!

Ordinary light dimmer will not work, plus they are designed for a/c and the motor is DC requiring a bridge rectifier to convert.

Pwm controller. You can buy an E-bike kit with a throttle(potentiometer)twist grip, pwm controller and 48vdc motor etc. That brushed treadmill motor needs over 100 volts to run at full speed. You will not get that with your hack---Your still using ac from your home for this demo. For a two battery cart or bike your still going to have to use buck converter, to step up from 24vdc to 120v the transformer will weigh 25lbs. Then those two 12v deep cycle L-IonPe batteries costing $300 each. But 1/2 the weight of lead acid wet cells. Just like real full size EV's it's all about the cost of the batteries. For 21st century tech-Ta-Da!!! Try a quality SCR IGBT made by Fairchild for mosfet power inversion. Oh, with that 7lb flywheel your going to need a one way bearing to stop. That thing is going to have so much inertia I hate to think of poorly designed braking system. CRASH!
