Looks great with the green background. I really like the idea of the cleat system simply because I don't have to commit to tool location! LOL

The dark green with plywood is my new favorite look! Im very indecisive when it comes to tool location and it’s always evolving.

Been looking for a way to hang my canvases while working on multiple paintings. One of my favorite artists uses a French cleat for all his work, but I wanted to see it implemented in a larger space. Came across your channel and now I will be doing this in my tool shed as well. Very good explanations and custom uses! Thank you so much!

This is a really cool video. I built my tool wall before I heard of French cleats. I'm going to strip everything off of it and re-make it with these cleats. I've also started marketing French cleats as home decor. First time watcher; new subscriber.

Looks great. Ive got the same miter saw. Have you had any problems with yours? Just last week the blade is taking 5 seconds to stop after i let off the trigger, and the lazer is out of square! Its like the saw is twisted and i cant figure it out!
@grovebuilds20 күн бұрын
I’ve had my saw for a couple years now and after dialing everything in one time it’s stayed square. I don’t do bevel cuts just angles and it’s stayed perfect. I would check the laser to the blade and see if they align, if they don’t I think using the laser is just not gonna work

Given me doom brilliant ideas for my wall I am going to do, hope it does Not matter how thick the French cleat is
@grovebuilds Жыл бұрын
Mine are 2 inches thick and that is the “sweet spot” in my opinion. They look good but more importantly they can hold ALOT of weight!

Are the cleats you used for the tool holders the same size as the ones installed on the wall, if not what dimensions were they?
@grovebuilds4 ай бұрын
Yes they are! I used the scraps and left over pieces to make all my cleats. I would suggest making several extra cleats to use for in the future while you have your tools all set up.

Why the 3” spacer? Why not 2 or 5? I’ve seen others go up to 8”, however I believe that would limit the amount of tool hangers.
@grovebuilds5 ай бұрын
That is what worked best as far as spacing for my wall. I wanted it to all be evenly spaced but 5 or 8 inches was too big of a spacing. I needed enough space for my cleats to slide in easy and 3 worked great for me. If you put them too close you won’t be able to slide your cleats in easily.

Dude. How thick is the plywood!
@grovebuilds7 ай бұрын
3/4 inch
@IraStephens8 ай бұрын
Would you have a recommendation on what plywood to use for the cleats? Thickness, grade, type, etc. Ive built several 'walls' onto work benches using very nice expensive plywood. But that'll get really expensive for the full wall inwant to. Especially since im putting it onto a concrete brick wall. That ill first need use fir strips and full.sheets of plywood before the cleats go on.
@grovebuilds8 ай бұрын
I personally used 3/4 inch cabinet grade plywood. Plenty of strength and it looks good. Don’t buy plywood from Home Depot or Lowe’s, reach out to a local hardwood dealer and the plywood will be cheaper. The bigger the dealer the better. My local dealer has 4x8 3/4 inch plywood for $55 a sheet. If you don’t have any local hardwood dealer, try a local cabinet shop. Sometimes they order in bulk and will give you a deal.
@IraStephens8 ай бұрын
OK great recommendations, that's a great price!

Bro, plywood must be free in America! Dear lord just a sheet of crappy birch plywood will run you $230 a sheet here in Sweden! Awesome wall though. I might just go with 2x4 for the wall cleats and then make the holders out of MDF and just paint everything in a dark grey.
