I'm in awe of the skill that so many of you ladies have in dressmaking without a pattern. Here in the US most of us are dependent on patterns. I did say I was working with four yards of fabric but then you can still use more or less depending on the volume of the gathers you want

You gather using the circumference of the upper part of your gown, the reason you are not using your waist measurement is because of the zip allowance at the back
