I've been prepping for years. Mostly worried about a winter power outage. My family talks the talk but won't walk the walk. I have been storing to help them as well. I am the only one who takes it seriously. I will help them as much as I can but I will gently berate them for not prepping.

If you have more than one bathtub, consider buying a water bladder. You can fill up the tub with a full bladder that holds many gallons of water...

I appreciate your videos. I have been trying to get my sister to begin by stocking food and water for 2 weeks. At this point anything more than that is too much for her to comprehend. I know that I began with just a week and went from there. After 3 years I now have nearly a year's worth of protein, some veggies and a bit fewer fruits but I do have a stock to share with others. I started in June of 2020 by setting aside $10/week and I can verify that it all adds up.

Exactly!! You may not choose to eat some of these items without heating them first, but in a pinch, they certainly will be filling and palatable.

Rice, beans, pasta and water to me are the basics of preparing and prepping. If you have $100 take around $10 towards food for long term. Wheater it's can goods or whatever. If you have extra to spend then add to your long term supply. Live your life everyday and buy what you want to eat but put some aside for long term. Keep doing it and eventually you can have a pantry worthy of being called a preppers pantry. That's my opinion and that's all that it is. You do what's best for you and your family.

You are such an inspiration, AG. You'll be very proud of me to hear that I rotated everything I have, marked clearly with bb dates, and packed according to dates. Many thanks for the hint in one of your videos to cut out the small recipe and add it to the jar. Very helpful. ❤❤❤

I know for a lot of experienced preppers, a week seems like nothing. However, it's a great start for a lot of people, especially if they get overwhelmed by the fancy YT videos where people have a basement full of food. I have room to store what I want, but a lot of seniors live in condos or senior apartments and maybe all they can store is a week's worth. That's better than nothing. There are days when you can't get out due to weather or you may not feel well - even a week's worth of food would be great to have.

For a short term, grid-down emergency, I believe that keeping fed and entertained will be the main challenges -- especially for younger people who have never known a time when they could not be in constant contact with their network of acquaintances via social media and text messaging. It is always possible that the local cell phone towers will run out of power or get destroyed in a wildfire or just become saturated with too many people trying to make calls. For meals, we have stocked up on a month's worth of Mountain House meal pouches of the varieties my family likes to eat when we go camping. We especially like the chorzio breakfast skillet, classic spaghetti with meat sauce, beef stroganoff with noodles and the chicken fried rice. The best thing about Mountain House meals is they can store for longer than 20 years in a cool, vermin-free location so no extra expense of having to rotate/replace canned goods every few years. And they can be frugally stretched to more servings by serving these meals over prepared instant rice or instant mashed potatoes or Ramen noodles. And with these instant meals, there is no dish washing. Just boil some water to pour into the pouch and eat directly from the pouch after the meal has steeped long enough. So, no pots and pans to wash. And zero cooking odor. We have also stocked up on some quart size and gallon size, sturdy bottles of drinking water, some manual can openers and an assortment of paper plates and bowls, disposable flatware, paper napkins and kitchen trash bags. These disposable things mean we will not be using our precious drinking water for hand-washing dishes during a short term emergency. We can even re-hydrate instant rice, noodles or mashed potatoes in paper bowls or disposable hot cups. We have a small stockpile of butane cylinders and propane cylinders for the camp stoves, so we can boil water either indoors or outdoors depending upon the weather and other conditions. We also have a supply of the smaller batteries for our various devices in addition to a Jackery power bank and portable solar panel. This way we can have flame-less lighting at night, receive emergency news broadcasts on our radios, recharge our portable DVD player, recharge the Kindle e-reader, recharge the smart phones and listen to our favorite music CDs on vintage portable CD players. I do not intend for us to be bored during the hours or days of a grid-down emergency if we have to shelter in place. And we have a stockpile of baby wipes as an alternative to cold water showers or no showers at all during a short-term grid down. This is if we do not want to run the generator on our RV, which is parked next to hour house, so we can have hot showers there. The generator's noise would be noticeable to our neighbors and maybe we would not want to draw attention to ourselves when we are in the neighborhood instead of out there camping in the wilderness.

I keep several propane tanks for such situations. I refilled them at a U-haul location yesterday. $55 to refill 5 tanks is a great deal cheaper than just doing the tank exchange at $27 each. Plius you get more propane at U-haul than you do in exchange locations. Having said that...I unloaded the tanks into my garage last night. Planned to move them to the outside storage area today. I was sitting in the garage with the main door open...and suddenly started smelling propane. Turns out one tank has a leak where the open/close valve isn't making a complete seal. So the tip here is do not store propane tanks indoors...but DO keep a few tanks on hand. I have propane heaters, grill, and I can use the large tanks to refill my little 1 pound propane tanks rather than tossing them and spending big bucks to buy more.

Canned goods location is very important. Tge TEMPERATURE NEEDS TO BE STABLE. and cool is better. Cans in a garage get hot then cold then hot. IT MAKESBTHE CANS BREAK TGE SEAL. A closet or under the bed is better. Its a TEMPERATURE stable location. Stay away from heat register and th furnace or utilities closet. Hot water heaters will make cans spoil as well.

Knock on wood with my pineapple, i hav to laugh at your luck with pineapples. Get auguson freeze dried pineapple or even walmarts dried pineapple from the snak aisle. Works great. I also buy the little snak cups of pineapple. Havnt had one open yet. And i do cringe for you every time you buy pineapple. I keep hormel tamales too. Also hav isadora refried (esp maycoba) beans that i will use like a mayo for extra protein on a sandwich. Stokes green chili( can)over eggs and a can diced potatoes, hav that once a week. And I keep saying Great value (Walmart) artesian Mac n cheese in a variety of flavors with a can of chicken or roast beef. My favorite havarti or bacon. I get 3 or 4 meals out of one box. Add a can of mix vegatables to stretch even farther!!! B!ack in 2019 I bought about 100 cans of chunky soup for 88cents a can. Still eating them and they are just fine!!!!!
