i had my laces in a straight bar for a tighter fit for about a year and it has really done a toll on my ankles and feet. i was looking for a looser bar lace so i wouldnt lose the look and would spare myself of some pain. im eternally grateful for this method and tutorial!

One of multiple ways to straight lace. You can get the same look with no under lace by knotting the lace at the inside of the bottom eyelet. Then straight lace up normally. Wrap the excess lace in loops, going through the heel loop. Tie it off with with a simple hitch knot, then tuck the loose end into the top of the boot. This method is the classic way to lace docs.

that is the way i have done it for the last 30 years. i never seen anyone else use this method until now. most people tie a knot inside the first hole and "sew" from bottom up which make the lines un-straight and tilted. and a very important thing about lacing boots is to NEVER put the string from outside in on the last hole, because it may end up with the knot get hidden on the inside and you will have to cut it off.

To anyone buying any Dr Martin boots or Solovair boots with the PVC soles, I have done a lot of research and strongly recommend not wearing them in cold weather especially freezing temps. The soles will crack. Apply a mink oil paste, allow it to dry with a hair dryer then only wear them when it's nice outside, they will last alot longer

This is great if you have women’s boots because they seem to be made smaller so you will most likely see the lip behind the laces. With men’s sizes or bigger sizes. The boot can tie tighter, hiding the lip and if you were to use the different method where the laces can be seen woven through the back, it can hide those too.

Get longer laces if you'd like to do this. DM's usually come with fiddly short laces so you should invest in that. Also I find that lacing my shoes like this leaves them fairly loose so I opt not to. Have you guys had any luck lacing these tightly?
