Right on, Steve! I've been using this method for the last 2 years. Stihl motofuel for the last few uses, and put them (trimmer, blower, chainsaw), away. They start right up in the spring. Great channel. Thanks!

One issue we have found with the non ethanol fuels is if you use it on a regular basis is that you must change the fuel lines and diaphragms in the carburettor because the non ethanol fuel can rot fuel lines and diaphragms if they have been weakened by pump fuel already.

Hey Steve I've used 100LL Aircraft Gasoline before to run small engines. What do you think about using it for storage, it may not be cost efficient at around 5 dollars a gallon but it's cheaper that a gallon of superfuel. It doesn't smell as bad as 87E10 either.

You've just confirmed that what I've been doing is correct. I switched to 90 Octane, zero ethanol gas for all of my yard equipment about 20 years ago. I used to use Sta-Bil, but have been using Stihl Moto-Mix as a Winter-storage-and-early-Spring two-cycle fuel for 6+ years and it works great. Steve: All I have done for the last decade or so is empty the tank, purge the carburetor of fuel using the priming bulb and tip that bit of fuel out too then start the machine until it stalls and that's it job done, have never had a problem starting come the spring time. I don't buy the one about diaphragms going brittle without fuel present. If that were true they would be brittle right out of the packet new if left on the shelf a while, never seen that happen have you ?
@Witschor4 жыл бұрын
Ethanol let them get brittle and drys them out. When Fuel gets bad it becomes sour and it kills the Diaphrams rapidly. Also the Aluminium gets corroded .I have changed dozens of them here in "Ethanol" Germany. Mostly on Chainsaws , while used once a year and stored in a Gardenshed.

I have always started every small engine I own every month of the year. I have suggested it to others that have had problems once the problem has been resolved. I often wonder how many follow through with it. This is without a doubt the best advice you have ever given. This, along with keeping ethanol out of a small engine, will keep your engines humming along year after year, season after season.
@bentullett60684 жыл бұрын
I tend to recommend using a fuel stabiliser or a two stroke oil with a fuel stabiliser in a low ethanol percentage fuel in the UK or start looking into using the ethanol free fuels. The pump fuel in the UK will be changing in 2021 to the grade you are currently using so we will be seeing more fuel issues on a daily basis.

It cut 3 inch branches and grapevine no problem ( I worked at an apple orchard). I had 3 of them because they broke often. The battery one I use now seems to work pretty welll but you need more than 1 battery for even small areas. It's a Milwhakee and cuts pretty well. In Dallas Texas we don't worry about winterizing. We just cut the grass all year long. Well we may not cut the grass on the third week of January but that's about it. Heck I plant my garden mid February.

We have to winterize every year? Crap.

I have used the VP brand fuel for two years and haven't needed any repairs yet. When I used pump gas I spent more on repairs for my stihl weed eater than it cost me new.

Steve, I have to say I absolutely love your channel!!! You keep everything to the point and your info is spot on. You are correct about that fuel being expensive, but I run True-Fuel in my Tractor, weed Wacker, push mower and since I started using this haven't had any issues I did when I used pump fuel🙂🙂. Thank you for all your super informative videos, I've fixed alot of my equipment and saved alot of $ because of your videos

That sounds like how I used to winterize my motorcycle using the gas stabilizer. GREAT tip! Steve, if I may, I'd like to say thanks on your video about restoring old bearings. (6203-2RS). I have a small collection of pulleys (3) that the bearings are frozen. I WAS going to order & replace them. I saw your video, and I thought, GEE, I used to clean and re-pack my car's front wheel bearings. THIS IS GREAT! Now I'm ahead by 3 pulleys and it only cost me a can of brake cleaner and a can of the air- duster.. THANKS!!!!!!!

In the Uk, we tend to look after our machinary about as well as we look after our teeth. This is good advice, Steve, simple and straight forward. Cheers. I've never seen the super fuel for sale over here, but as soon as I find some, I'm gonna start brushing with it :)

Steve great video. Quick question. I am able to buy the un doctored unleaded. Old school No additives. Lots of folks here use it for the boat motors and of course small engines . Is this just as good as the super fuel????

Steve, I found this video last year and followed your advice..I use Stihl super fuel on my stihl grass trimmer and chainsaw. Las t fall I topped up both and left in my garage. Yesterday I primed the grass trimmer and it started first pull😀. Will try the chainsaw on the weekend and expect the same result. Thanks for the suggestion

A good quality 2 cycle oil is a fuel stabilizer. And I run 50:1 in my Stihl equipment and in late fall the last few tanks through the mower are 50:1. Upper cylinder lube and fuel stability just in time for winter. In the spring, a couple slow pulls to move things around then one to start. Retired a 32 yo Lawnboy using this method. Reliable every year without fail.

That's the best advice I've heard! I used to work as a small engine mechanic and I would dread that bad gas smell every Spring.

Lol. Love the video. I was in the Dollar Store today and all of their VP, SEF Brand cans were $1.25 a can with 5 year shelf life(unopened). I bought 8 cans.

I bought a gallon size container of trufuel a few weeks ago just for this reason . This past spring, three stihl saws needed carbs, plugs, fuel lines/filters.

I like running it during the winter so much that I end up running it more often than once a month. Neighbors think I'm nuts but my stuff always runs no matter what. I haven't had a clogged up carb in years.

I learned my lesson when I stored my trimmer in my garage all winter....when I started it up in the spring the engine failed. What happened is I had the trimmer tilted down slightly so all the water vapour condensed in the cylinder head and built up over the cold months...causing the engine failure. So I love Steve's suggestion to start up the tool every month to renew the combustion components and get rid of the condensation. I also was shown to store my trimmer with the carburator up higher than the water will not collect in it

Holy IPA, what a simple and effective idea. It cost a few dollars, but way less then considering the time to mess around with all the other rigmarole. Thank you thank you thank you. My chain saws are going into hibernation soon and this will be a great timesaver. Well worth the bucks. I will add a tad of oil to the container to bring it up to 40:1 ..... My preference. If someone has trouble with the "tad" numbers, I would be glad to help once the IPA wears off snicker snicker. ...OUT!
