I decided to make a wildlife pond last year. I was actually able to order a 300 litre solid freestanding pond online. It was delivered within days. The bloke delivering it wondered what on earth it was. I put pebbles on the bottom & ordered over hang baskets which allowed for shallow planting. I’ve got logs stacked up on one side to allow access for frogs etc. It was so easy to do & so satisfying. It is teaming with tadpoles this year. Every garden needs a water feature.

Johnny, the trick is to get the feeders out there in the backyard. If you have them they will come Canada has some cold winters as well. Sometimes down to mines 25. I start putting them out now end of March beginning of April you might not get them right away but they will come keep those feeders out there the magic recipe to get them to come is one cup sugar, 4 cups boiling, hot water Put them out in the backyard and they will come sometimes it takes a while. Good luck my friend.

That's so interesting that the fountain is powered by the sun?? Never heard of a pump that changes the amount of pump due to light. How does that even work?
@FishShopMatt7 ай бұрын
I don't know the science behind it but I think this is a direct feed from solar panel to pump, so as soon as it has less light it has less power. There are a few different types of pumps and some can slow down and speed up where as some will only run full power or nothing.
@SilasNomad6 ай бұрын
Basically, the more light the solar panel is exposed to, the more it can convert into electricity that gives the pump 'go'. Unless you put the electrical equivalent of a resevoir in there (like a capacitor or cell) the action of the pump will always vary depending on how much light is available, because solar cells cant store charge on their own.

What a beautiful build! Lovely tadpole habitat. The idea of moving rocks across from a nearby pond is a great one, especially to make sure there's enough food, but just a note that people should please not go further than, say a couple of gardens to get these materials. Even in the UK we have serious issues with diseases like chytrid fungus affecting frog populations and it would be really easy to spread undesirable pathogens or invasive species this way.
@joshuasmith1478 ай бұрын
Also for random interest, the bug at 19:52 is a rove beetle, probably Xantholinus sp., and just after that it looks like a 7-spot ladybird, which is one of our native species (rather than the invasive and super common harlequin ladybird). At 20:26 it's the green shield bug, Palomena prasina :)

I found a floating pump did not turn enough water for me aslo Matt if it drifts in a wind it can empty the pond I would tie a sting to it and tie it to a smaal rock to prevent it reaching the edge maybe. I also buried a baby bath in my herb garden and it has rocks in it to help critters climb out
