This video is so helpful and detailed! These tips will definitely help me take better care of my aquarium plants.

I’ve had African dwarf frogs for a while now make sure as the come up through the roots they don’t get tangled and can’t make it to the top to breath, also watch out for too much coverage that doesn’t allow the access to the air.

How often would I have to perform a water change on a tank this small?

I love this one! Will you be using any kind of filtration in here? Or water changes or what??

The biodegradable cartridges are super interesting. Personally I use a sponge filter for my frogs, but that's a personal preference more comparable to superstition than anything. I've had my four for about a year now, and our tanks don't look terribly dissimilar! I hope they're doing well. Edit now that I've finished the video: your frogs, like they usually are at the big stores, very skinny in this video. I'm sure by now you've noticed that they've filled out and are a lot more pear-shaped. I've had good luck restoring some condition to new frogs quickly by giving them a good feed or two on some frozen beef heart. Sometimes they can look quite chunky, but as long as they're not ballooning up (which can be dropsy or bloat) it's nothing to worry about. The way that you tell males from females is that females get quite big hips, their bodies get about a third larger than the males. The males also have little white bumps in their front armpits. Those are glands and we think they have something to do with mating but it's not well understood. The males also make a little buzzing sound when they're singing for females. A bit like buzzing magnet toys that you toss up in the air, but fairly soft, not disruptive at all, usually after dark. It was a great mention about how to tell them apart from the big clawed frogs, as that's definitely something that gets mislabled fairly often and can have some pretty disastrous consequences, but I do also want to mention that it's not really advisable to mix either species with fish. There just tend to be a lot of difficulties in feeding, in particular that the frogs eat very slowly and very messily, and it can be quite hard to make sure they get enough food without horribly overfeeding the fish and as a consequence the tank. They can go with some types of snails fairly readily, ramshorns and nerites should be just fine to go in with. Hope this helps you and/or anyone reading it that is interested in getting these. I highly recommend them, they're absolute goofballs and I love mine.

I'm so glad you made this video! Beginners are often inspired by my planted tanks, but I find myself hemming and hawing about encouraging them to do the same. As you know, plants are SOME work. I really like your plastic plant scape!

Nice tanks Matt! I forgot all about the split wood theme by the time the video was over, but both sides came out great. Love the Kubatai rasboras too.

Right after you put the last plants in before you added the water, I said out loud "That looks good" and then you said "This looks good" LOL synchronicity!

I have 18 kohli loachs in my aquarium. I only see one or two daily for a few seconds when I turn the lights on in the morning. They swim fast and go hide in their caves

While I prefer live plants, plastic can look very lovely. I have many customers who come in and they don't use live plants, their fish are still happy and thriving and the customers are happy.

This is a breath of fresh air not everyone wants real plants etc and it’s nice to see you can have a nice tank without real plants

I had a group of 6 hybrid CPDs (no clue what that means) and while there was SO much spawning behaviour I never got any babies. They loved the Java moss forest I had going on. It took a long time for them to get used to me around, but were very confident when no one was near them. Originally I just had them with ember tetras, adding guppies really helped them all feel confident with people around. I eventually added a female koi Betta and they all got on really well

What would your advice be? I started an african cichlid tank, i chose to do a fish in cycle, dosing seachem prime and stability every day. After a week my ammonia has spike to around 4ppm, ive read its best not to change water yet if using seachem prime as it needs ammonia to cycle but my nitrate is around 80ppm discovered my tap water has 40ppm of nitrate straight from the tap

I think it’s a great introduction for NEW fish keepers or a younger audiences to get into the hobby and they don’t have the time or don’t know how to take care of plants. I think Matt made that clear in the beginning of the video. Our industry needs this so it can grow. Great video!

I used real plants because of their benefits to the water quality, but I have used realistic artificial in the past & they looked great. I've often wondered how good you could make very garish/fake decor look... something not childlike, with a sinister/sci fi feel. I'd try it myself, but I only have 6 tanks, so can't spare one 😂.
