Veneer tape, also called edging tape or edge banding, is a GREAT way to cover the edges of man-made materials. If you do this correctly, the completed piece will look like solid wood. Ethan has a bunch of great tips and tricks that will make the process easy and the results great.
WHERE WOULD I USE EDGING TAPE?
You can use edge banding anywhere you want to cover the core of man-made materials. A really common application is shelving. Use veneer-faced material such as MDF or plywood for your shelves, cover the edges with tape, and no one will ever know.

HOW’S IT WORK?
Veneer tape or edging tape has a heat sensitive adhesive on the back. You need to activate the adhesive to get it to stick to your project. When you’re buying your tape be sure that it’s a little wider than the finished thickness of the part your working on. The width of the tape should exceed the thickness of the material by at least 1/16”.
WHAT DO I NEED?
Tooling up to apply edge banding is easy. You need something to activate the adhesive; a heat gun or household iron works great. You’ll also need a scrap of wood you can use to press the heated veneer tape in place. A great way to trim the oversized tape is by using a card scraper. Ethan shows you how. Finally, you’ll need some sandpaper to clean up the edges.
CAN I ALWAYS MATCH MY SHEET STOCK?
Many home centers sell edge banding for ¾” stock in common species like maple and oak. Look at more specialized retailers, like woodworking specialty stores, for other species and wider tape.

Relying on a cabinet scraper to trim the overhang? You ere trusting the tape veneer has straight grain that will not run out. Better to use a cutting edge like a plane or knife.

It's the scraper method I'm trying to get my head around you wouldn't think it would be sharp enough to trim.iy

Rounded edges would be challenging with this technique. I'd suggest experimenting on some scrap. Paul

Hi, what do you call the adhesive that is applied on a table's edge to remove sharp edges? Of course, I understand I need to use sandpaper but there is something applied to edge to achieve that professional look and feel. Thank you.

Hello, Thank you for contacting us. Sorry, but I’m not familiar with an adhesive that would be used to remove sharp edges. If you have a pic of the product or an indication of where you saw it, that would be helpful. Most commonly I use a 1/8” radius roundover bit to knock off the sharp corners. If you have any other questions, please chat, email, or call Customer Service.  Sincerely, Sarah Wood Workers Guild of America Video Membership

People are so wrong, most of the time. This is just too much work. You have to do it, and then get up early and walk and use your hands and think and breathe and feel and look and become emotionally invested and then be careful not to hurt yourself with the thing and pretend it's not boring as f..ck and then the dust goes in your left eye and then your right eye, and then you sneeze, need some water to drink, or go make some coffee, Omg the water takes like so long to boil, and then you out of sugar, cause life is already so bitter and.... Point is: Easily applying anything in life, Edging tape, or whatever is not really easy if you think about it. THE END

That's a bit harsh. Maybe offer some constructive criticism rather. For example, less looking directly at the camera and just show us what you're doing.
