Guys, first few minutes Dani and Christian mention that her sister is bipolar and has a history of moods and suicide attempts. He tells her that Dani shouldn't "let her" take advantage of her, she's just asking for attention, etc. But Dani knows better and that's why she calls her parents and leaves a message, calls her friend, etc.
@abbycareyyy77552 жыл бұрын
I don’t understand what was so confusing to y’all at the start 😂 I’ll give a summary for ya: sister (Dani) was su*cid*al and dealing with worrisome mental health issues, so she sent her cryptic goodbye over the message on the computer and took the parents with her. Carbon monoxide poisoning herself and them, intentionally killing everyone. So now we have set up that our main Character has lost everything TRAGICALLY and traumatically. She is alone and her family is gone and she is grieving. That’s what you are meant to take from this :p ALSO the mushroom trip scene is a very typical experience for someone with unresolved trauma, one of the best most accurate cinematic portrayals of a shroom trip gone bad. ALSO the disfigured person in the village at the start is meant to raise suspicion to the viewer of generational incest 😬 ALSO The reason all the women are moaning and crying together at the end is to make everybody feel as though they are one - they’re officially recruiting her in to their cult society so she feels accepted there. That’s how they got her - she has nobody at all. Not even her ex. That’s how they make her choose them.

@abbycareyyy77552 жыл бұрын
@@lanabreezy3067 I assume she killed them as well against their free-will. Part of what makes that so especially traumatizing for our main character is not knowing why. Mercy from this terrible exhausting life she perceives? Selfishness as in she didn’t want to be on the other side without them? Cruelty because she thinks it’s their fault she ended up so miserable? Who knows.

i think the most disturbing part of this movie that is never acknowledged is that Christian was raped. it’s NEVER talked about, but he was severely drugged and coerced into sex with that woman. that and the whole argument that Dani had a “happy ending” is so funny to me. she most definitely did NOT; this is a psychological horror that tackles some pretty intense subjects. so glad you guys watched, it’s one of my favorites.

no they definitely did highlight the fact that he was raped through Christian's facial expressions and drugs being forced upon him. The fact that he was raped is one of the things that make the ending so morally ambiguous. And when people are happy for Dani, it's because 1. they're in the mindset that it's just a movie (like how you'd root for the killer in some horror movies because the victims are created to be unbearable) 2. The movie kind of indoctrinated them in a way. I think the ending kind of shows how easy it is for a cult to play mind games on people to the extent where it even works on the audience a little bit
@sertu1462 Жыл бұрын
But he basically did that to himself. He knew the drink was going to lower his defences and that it was gonna make him more suscepteable to influences, right after he learned that Maya is supposed to mate with him. He drugged himself, knowing what it would lead to. Obviously that doesn't mean he deserves to be burned alive tho.

Sorry to break it to you Cory but Nick is correct in regard to the car exhaust discussion lol. It is carbon monoxide that kills people, not carbon dioxide. For the whole Thesis thing; a Thesis is for a Bachelor's Degree and a Dissertation is for a Doctorate Degree to get your Ph.D. Typically a Thesis has to be between 40-60 pages long and a Dissertation is 100-300 pages long. In regards to doing a thesis, people pick a topic they want to write about/ one that has to get approved as well. If they go for their Ph.D. they will use the same material for their Dissertation as well (I'm not sure if you have to pick the same topic but to me, it would save time and cut your effort in half because you can use your Thesis and expand upon it). If someone else works on the same exact topic as you, then you essentially have even less to write about you would have to split the topic even further to avoid plagiarizing any material the other person has written about. It makes an already stressful project even more stressful and strained. I don't believe you can cite the same sources or use the same resources to avoid your work overlapping. You might be able to use it, but that would make it easier to accidentally write similarly to the other person. The other person could claim you stole their idea and force you to write about something else. Claim you plagiarized them and get your work thrown out, make you start completely over even though people dedicate months and sometimes years to their thesis work if they come up with their idea early enough. You could even get expelled over plagiarization claims. It just makes the entire stressful assignment way more difficult than it already is. The only way it would work out better is if you collaborated on it as Christian suggested, but he was just trying to take Josh's idea just because he thought the ceremony they witnessed was cool. Not because he was actually vested in learning more about their culture as Josh was. Luckily, I haven't had to write one, so feel free to share your own reasons below this comment about sharing a thesis topic with someone if anyone has had to write one before. Spoiler for those who haven't watched the movie: Mark's face was the one being worn when Josh was knocked out for taking pictures. The one peeing on their ancestors. And for Dani's family, her sister ended the lives of their parents and then herself as well. They mentioned that she's threatened to do such things in the past due to her mental struggles. Which is why Dani's sister's (Terri Ardor's) email scared Dani so much. Only that time she succeeded, however, because Dani didn't live with them, she couldn't do anything about it, she could only call to check up on them. But by the time she called, it was already too late.

And this is why I am glad that I got a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) because I didn't have to do a Thesis lol. Instead I had to take a Senior Capstone class and create my own art show (with others with my degree), learn how to set up the show, and create my own artist statement. Since my paintings I used were basically all done over a span of several semesters, yeah it was a lot of work lol. Similar to a Thesis though, no one could pick the same subject for their show. Like I did animal portraits, no one else could do that.

So as someone who lives and grew up in the same region (compare it to state maybe as the U.S. equivalent?) that this movie is supposed to be set in, a little fun fact about the "forced to dance until they dropped dead" part. It's folklore about this one town that the cult in this movie lives in (it's a real town, the cult is fictional). Basically it is said that the devil came to this town way back in the day while the young children and adults were at church. With his violin he bewitched all the teens/young adults with a magical tune that put them under a spell to dance as long as it kept playing. In the end the devil refused to stop as their families pleaded and even after there were nothing left but the skulls of the dancing youth, they still hopped around in a circle until they turned to dust. There's a song about this tale and many children are told the story at a pretty early age. Some parents even bring their kids to see the town and the hill with the tracks the skulls are said to have hopped around in a circle on. We're a pretty atheist country and most people don't genuinely believe any of this stuff, it's just a fun tale to spook your kids with, and maintaining cultural history a little bit. I also wouldn't be too worried about insulting our culture, it's pretty normal over here to mock any and all parts of our own culture and traditions. As long as it's not personal or horribly tacky, I wouldn't sweat it.
@Jungfrun12 жыл бұрын
What we do is dance in circles around a large penis pole pretending to be frogs. Singing that we are funny looking frogs without any ears or tails. A song that has its origin in French military march songs about soldiers marching which was then picked up by the english men who've been known to call the French frogs resulting in Sweden people singing about frogs while dancing around a pole every year. It's insane just how connected Europe is.

The first pronunciation is older Regressive assimilation where clusters such as -ds- and -ts- were assimilated to -ss-, which also found in the pronunciation of words like Ledsen,låtsas,matsäck skjutsa, and many others. The second pronunciation is newer and have a reintroduced /d/ due to spelling pronunciation. Both are considered standard and correct.
