Chevdo/chivda - East African style Recipe ( Gujarat snack mix with rice flakes, potato crisps, lentils and nuts) is a gujarati snack made usually at celebrations like Diwali.
There are lots of variations of chevdo and East African chevdo has it’s own unique taste.

Ingredients :
•Oil to fry
• Poha ( Rice Flakes ) - 500 gms
• Split Chickpeas ( Chana Dal ) - 250 gms
• Masoor Dal - 250 gms
• Green Moong Dal - 250 gms
• Cashew nuts - 1 cup( approx 200 gms )
• Peanuts - 1 cup ( approx 200 gms)
• Raisin - 1/2 cup
• Curry Leaves - 1 cup
• Chopped Green Chillies - 1/2 cup
• Grated Fried Potatoes - 500 gms
• Oil - 1 cup
• Cinnamon Stick - 2
• Cloves - 7/8
• Seasom seeds ( Til) - 2 Tbsp
• Dry Red Chilli - 4/5
• Mustard seeds ( Rai) - 1/4 cup
• Turmeric - 1/4 cup
• Poppy Seeds ( Khas Khas ) - 1/4 cup
• Powdered Sugar - 1/4 cup
• Salt as per taste
• Red chillli powder - 2 Tbsp
• Kashmiri Red chilli powder - 2 tbsp
• Hing - 1 tsp

This is the best recipe 👌👌. My Aunt from Nirobi use to make it in my childhood . We use to eat in morning breakfast, at the end of the lunch, evening snack and some time after dinner. Thank you putting best version of it.

This is the way my mum used to make, when we were in East Africa. I am so glad to see it that I feel like making it. My family will eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. That is why I am scared to make it. very well made, thank you for showing it how to make.

Good mashalla why it changes its turmeric colour for just few day mine changes its turmeri colour it becomes white

Hi Purvika , glad to know we can help . Please try frying it on lower flame , potatoes grated should now be too thin to fry .. And follow below process 👇 Peel and wash the potatoes. Grate them and soak them in cold water over night . Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the grated potatoes. By soaking them in salted water, it adds flavour to the potatoes plus helps to make the crisps crispy. In the morning: Wash the grated potatoes 2-3 times with cold water and then drain them and spread them on a clean dish cloth. Washing the grated potatoes removes the starch and it will not go dark.

It doesn't changes it colour till 1 to 2 month in India . However if you want it for longer period of time , you can store it in ziplock bag in refrigerator.
