EAST BROAD TOP Potpourri - Fall 2024

An update on track restoration, a train ride on newly restored narrow gauge track that has not seen a steam train over 70 years, and lots of whistle music from EBT "Mikado" locomotive No. 16 are in this short video from our annual October visit to the East Broad Top Railroad National Historic Landmark.

It is amazing how much can change in a year and a half. This year in 2025 it will get even better once the school is out, that is when track work will recommence to connect to the Pogue bridge. The right of way from Jordan Summit all the way to Route 994 is fully ballasted and track is being gauged again and laid back down. It is remarkable and with donations still flooding in, that extra track work and material being gathered is helping to accelerate the railroad’s restoration.

In germany we say „Totgesagte leben länger“ Which means the ones that are pronuncex dead are living longer. This is what I thought after I have seen the progress they made, after their first teaser Video. And they even ibvestigated one of the tunnels. And it was found to be in better shape then they thought it would be. I am thrilled to se more progress in this year. Maybe I will visit them someday (but this year it wouldn't be possible, becozse I have as a trainee a small paycheck and a family farm too)
