Since I "rediscovered" the East Broad Top back in 2016 and began filming it, telling the story through video has been a goal of mine. The trailer I created for the launch three years ago was a start, but I have filmed rebuilding efforts since then. This video isn't just about the trains. It's about the people who made preservation of the railroad possible. Thank you Mark for this collaboration opportunity.

This is truly a masterpiece, the storytelling, the production, your music, the cinematography, the emotion, this is just everything. The EBT should come to you and ask permission to use this video for their promotion, it would be awesome to have this play in the ticket office or visitor’s center for people to watch. I do hope this video goes viral and you and your team get all the accolades you all so markedly deserve. And also that there are more videos like this to come, I could see this as a series of videos where you travel around the country and highlight steam preservation efforts.

I’ve been to the EBT several times over the years…the thing that struck me when compared to other “tourist” railroads was the fact that there was “real” rolling stock EVERYWHERE! Every siding or unused bit of track had a string of hoppers sitting on it (some in very poor condition) but it really helped give the sense that this was once a real, hard-working railroad. Glad to see things are up and running again.

This is an amazing video. The EBT is an awe inspiring transformation from what it was just 3 years ago. Then it was an overgrown rail yard next to the trolley museum where I spent all of my time. Now it is a rail yard that you can actually see in its entirety with a functional steam locomotive and useable freight equipment. Then there is the immense work put into the shops. Most of the buildings were partially sunken into the ground now they all are level and don’t look like they are going to fall over.

One of my earliest memories was riding the East Broad Top Railroad with some cousins back in the summer of 1983, and I've always made a point to ride it when I could. I also joined the FEBT during the hiatus in it's operations (2017, to be exact) and helped out some with the freight office restoration & replacing the windows in the blacksmith shop. I was overjoyed when they announced the purchase & reopening of the railroad in 2020. I mean when I started volunteering with the Friends, I had no idea when or even if the railroad would ever run again, and seeing how much work has been done over the past 3 years is nothing short of amazing! On a side note, you can see me riding the one speeder at 12:06... I'm the one with the Union kepi hat on.
