This is a very good video - you get technical enough to actually learn and practice the moves.

I have never, ever seen basic ECS having a side step in the middle of the standard start! Why would you waste all the space/time/effort taking a side step? We normally start in soft V not face-to-face. Honestly 20+ years of ECS and Lindy Hop and I have never seen anything this strange.

Hi Annie, Thanks for the feedback. I've seen people dance all sorts of different ways depending on where they live geographically, what other influences they've had and simply what their preferences are. I suppose I default to teaching the triple step first because it's challenging for brand new dancers. And from a social perspective the soft V makes total sense. I think competitive dancers have certainly influenced ECS over the years in ways that that are not needed from a social dance perspective. Maybe you're seeing that creep in to this video. In the end if more people learn to dance and enjoy it on their own terms - I think that's a good thing. Keep up the good work in promoting your love of swing dance. If you ever have some advice for future videos or topics I'm always game to listen. Happy Dancing -Brian

@@SocialDanceOnline No. I would love to see someone try that while incorporating Lindy Hop like we always do 6/8 count at a fast pace. In all the years, and all the classes I've taken, and seminars attended, I can say with complete honestly, I have NEVER seen anyone take a side step in the middle.

Hey @@anniewilson8979 I would agree that this isn't lindy hop. It's East Coast Swing (in it's ballroomized version) that you'd see in dance studio and on the competition floor not the authentic swing version. Just for clarification when you say "in the middle" which move or step are you talking about in particular. -B

What I said was I would love to see someone attempts to dance what we dance which is normally a combination of East Coast swing and Lindy Hop that is the most common combination. It’s a 6/8 count switch between. You cannot do that taking a step to the side he would never keep up. East coast swing by itself is boring, which is why for decades it has been combined with Lindy Hop.. Also had nothing to do with triple step or single step, you can do a triple step and stay in place with a bounce rather than a massive movement, it’s far less tiring and it is much more effective for timing. Regardless once more I have never in over 20 years of dancing East Coast swing, taking classes, and seminars around the US have I seen someone taking a step to the side in the middle of a basic. Of course I’ve never seen them dance face to face as a starting point either it’s always a soft V.

@@SocialDanceOnlineShe’s referring to the triple step. The triple should be one fluid motion in one direction but with a pulse/bounce. ❤
