*NW Europe:* Iceland, Faroe Islands *Western Europe:* UK, Ireland, most France, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, West Germany, Switzerland. *SW Europe:* Portugal, Spain and Southern France. *North Europe:* Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia. *Central Europe:* East Germany, Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Slovenia, Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus and Ukraine (entire or West half), Konigsberg oblast. *South Europe:* Italy, Balkans. *NE, Eastern & SE Europe:* Russia (European part takes already 42% of Europe surface). *SE Europe:* (partly) Georgia, (partly) Azerbaijan, (partly) Kazakhstan. *The center of Europe is in NE Poland or Lithuania* (depending on the method). По большому счету, если судить по положению в рейтинге, то все закономерно. Восток всегда исторически был беднее запада. Это даже прослеживается в некоторых странах восточной и центральной Европы.

Go back to school: East Europe are countries like Turkey, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova. All the rest you call "East" are Central Europe!
