Btw Jamie, Wateringbury level crossing had a upgrade. I'm pretty sure their upgrading all the crossings along the Medway Valley Line!

Yeah I know. I filmed Wateringbury in its first week of operation. East Farleigh is currently being upgraded as-well.

They’ll probs keep the lights where they are, all they need is new alarms and barriers then they’re set

No they won't because one wigwag is installed on part of the manual gates post, one is situated right where one of the barriers is going to be and ones on a lamppost. They're likely going to install new poles and relocate the lights, plus hide all the exposed cabling inside the poles. You've also got the underground wiring for all new equipment. Its not as easy as you think.

Wonderful showcase! With the upgrade already underway, this sight is unfortunately gone. I think the new crossing will look nice though, and I wonder if they'll re-use the wigwags here too. It was nice seeing a unique crossing while it lasted though, and I wonder what they'll do about all the traffic that builds up here. If you were there just 24 hours before then, you'd have run into me too! 😶😉

It's such a shame that the steam era Level crossing gates are going. They are rare to find on the modern railway. However there are plenty of these classic gates operational on preserved railways in the UK such as at Grosmont on the NYMR.

These gated crossings are becoming virtually extinct on the mainline - but yeah there's still a fair few on heritage railways.
