As a teenager I saw James Dean as a mirror of myself , whatever I did just wasnt good enough for my Father ,I had two older brothers who could do no wrong, and so I grew up as person with a massive chip on my shoulder , hating authority and shutting myself off from everybody , and to end up looking after my elderly Father in his last years and growing to love and forgive him makes the ending of this film such a massive comparrison to my life. James Dean will forever be a hero to me.

Brilliant portrayal by Dean. Destined to be a STAR. Destined to be loved by millions. Destined to die young. I still cry at his loss. I was 10 when I saw this movie in 1955. He was my idol. The OSCAR should have been his.

I just now finished watching this movie on TCM. I've never seen James Dean in anything before (though I've heard a lot about him, as I've recently gotten interested in the old Hollywood scene) and his performance just blew me away. I can't really explain the way I feel right now except I'm a little sad now and I wish I could give him, both the character and the actor, a hug.

James Dean , would have gone on to be one of the best actors ' EVER, had he lived!! What a tragedy, to die so young, with such a bright future -- just BURSTING at the seems. It's as though he had felt/known true agony & pain, in his short lived life. His escape was in his acting. As with so many other greats. James Dean, was the most GIFTED, EXSTROANARY, PHENOMENAL, stars, I've ever seen, on the big screen.. He touched so many souls, before fate stepped in. To this day, he is still concidered the GREATEST actor, of all time. Few, have come close, but, none can compare to the BELOVED, James Dean!! There will NEVER be another, as GREAT!!

When it comes to films, the '50s were a golden era for them. It shows the landscape was changing, especially in youth culture. James Dean supposedly had a lot of torment in his personal life (he had recently seen his father who he did not get along well with) and many scenes he was not acting as it relieved a lot of that torment.

Hollywood movie star James Dean was killed 65 years ago at the age of 24 in a car accident with his famous Porsche in California. The day before his death, James Dean had finished his third film, The Giant. Elizabeth Taylor was her co-star in the film. James Dean, who has appeared in many television programs, became famous with his first starring role in the movie "East of Paradise". His second film, Rebellion Without a Cause, had not yet been released at the time of his death. دینJames Dean quickly became a star while alive and immortalized one of the Hollywood legends.
@judypasqualone38192 жыл бұрын
The movie was called Giant not The Giant, the other was Rebel without a Cause not Rebellion without a Cause just to clear that up but you should read the book by Don Graham called Giant about the making of the movie. You will learn what James Dean was really like. It’s amazing to me with his attitude and antics he was tolerated making his three famous movies. He was extremely difficult and very much like his characters. His personal life, too, is an eye opener which I personally was not aware of. I got mine from the library. I’m just half way through and a large portion is about James Dean and what he was actually like. Highly recommend to any fan of his.

As someone who's just read East of Eden, this movie is pretty unsatisfying. It starts about 2/3 of the way into the book with Cal stalking Kate. This movie seems like it was only made for James Dean, not for John Steinbeck. It should have been called "Caleb Trask (an East of Eden story)". And where's Lee?!!
@dylankuehner4 жыл бұрын
THANK YOU! I think Dean is a good actor, but I hated this version of Cal. Had almost no constant character like the Cal in the book had. I respect the actor, but personally think he made the wrong decisions with this character (ps excluding Lee, the best character, is a big mistake).

@@agemoth He was the best character in the book! (aside from Samual). He was the Chinese servant to the family. He raised Cal and Aaron after their mother left and Adam was a "space-out" father. He serves as both the care taker and the sober minded adult during the whole story. He and Samuel both inspire Adam to engage with his boys again after being hopeless for many years (Timshel). He also helps Cal realize the error in his ways when investing in that farm. Except from Sam, he's the moral backbone of the whole story and really keeps the characters from choosing bad. One of my favorite books of all time because of those characters and was a real shame to not see them in the movie.
