This is my all time favourite film. Brilliant actors. James Dean was the most gorgeous man ever. I was lucky to get Julie's autograph, which I cherish. I hope I meet Jimmy one day when I leave this world.

Like everything else in life, there are good and then there are bad comments about James Dean. I for one, think he was handsome, photogenic, sexy, and on his way to becoming a very good actor. I think he really wanted that. Wish we could have seen more. R.I.P. James Dean

I think he was much more than that. Don’t get me wrong, you’re absolutely right but James Dean, Marlon Brando and Montgomery Clift were perhaps the most influential method actors of all time. Their body of work was the main inspiration for younger promises like Dustin Hoffman, Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. So I think he wasn’t going to be a good actor, he was a phenomenal actor already. One example: in Rebel Without a Cause, at the police station, the police officer tells him he can hit his desk in order to loose his frustration. James Dean hit the wooden desk for real and hurted his hand in the process. Actors didn’t use to go that far for a scene.

@@carl_anderson9315 Here is something additional of note. I was at the 45th anniversary of "Rebel" at the Los Angeles County Museum Of Art, and they discussed that scene. They said that in that scene, when originality shown to a (pre-release?) audience, that they laughed when Dean hit the desk and hurt himself. But the scene was not intended to be funny. So they quickly added some strongly heightened music in the scene immediately after he recoils from hurting himself at the desk, and it completely changed the import of the scene. The sudden heightened music draws you in, and makes you feel sympathy for his character, whereas without it, his character looks silly, NOT the intent of the scene. That was a good night at the County Art Museum, they went into detail about how studios used to have orchestras, and how that was used to good effect in films of an earlier era. The evening was also nice, in that several of the original surging cast members were present, including Dennis Hopper and Corey Allen.

@@chrisfreeman9960 Wowie! What an interesting night that must have been. I recall the desk-hitting scene quite well. He was a great actor in what we have seen and we're lucky to have that much. We could have had much more, of course.

Even forgetting his brilliant acting, if there was ever a more expressive, photogenic or more perfect face, man or woman, I don’t know who it would be. James Dean was a beautiful but fleeting tragic miracle, and he’s frozen in time, forever on film for countless billions to marvel at. Unforgettable, truly. 1931-…

Ah, I've been looking for this scene everywhere, thanks for uploading! Apparently Dean couldn't get this scene quite right so the director got him good a drunk and after that, he got it in one take!
