Lana Del Rey says "Shut up" during an interview!

(shut up : 7:50) (lana embarassed : 2:30)
For all the english people who don't understand why she says "SHUT UP". No, it's not because the interviewer is making fun of her lips or something like that. He is just teasing Lana all the interview. Now, let me explain what happened before she says shut up.
7:14 Nagui talks to Lana if there will be covers on her album
7:18 Lana answers she has some ideas but she still doesn't have authorization, she doesn't know.
7:20 Nagui : Is there Elvis cover ? Do you cover him ?
7:30 Lana : Yeah, I'd like but I don't think Priscilla... you know, we'll see
AND, IMPORTANT MOMENT AT 7:32 , Nagui is always teasing Lana saying : You see I know everything (like he shows to lana during the whole interview that he knows secrets of her past life and she always wonder how he can know that, for exemple she met Paul Mcartney etc.).
SO, THIS IS THE REASON WHY AT 7:34 Lana pouts, and seeing Lana's face, Nagui (always teasing her friendly) says but in French (so it's maybe because of this sentence just before the "shut up", in french that you didn't understand why she says it) : Ah... Ah voilà et elle se met à bouder" which means : "Ah... Ah, and she pouts (she sulks 7:34)". Then he says in english for Lana (so that she understands) : 7:40 "Did you always be like a sulky little girl when you were younger ?" (then he traduces it in French). 7:48 Lana is trying to answer but Nagui, (referring to the fact that she was just sulking at 7:36), is making fun of her face, imitating her at 7:50. And, to conclude, she says "Shut up" while he pouts.

I think that is the case. French people have different mannerisms, speak with very different body language a lot of the time, etc. For example French people are just naturally very flirtatious and pretty open with each other. They are very flirtatious people. My French hairstylist I go to sometimes is always super flirty with me. He almost practically dirty talks to me while he's cutting my hair haha. It's funny but he does it in a good way he's very sensual about it. He's also very nice it's like he tries to build my confidence and make me feel beautiful bc he constantly says stuff like "you are very beautiful gorgeous girl" =b But I think the problem is a lot of people, like Americans mostly, they get confused by their very different mannerisms and body language, their openness and flirtatiousness (not all of course, but very many...like the men). And so they confuse it for rudeness, simply because it is different and they do not understand it. I think if people hang out with French people more they will become acclimated to it and understand them more.

I thought that he was obnoxious. He kept prodding about her record production! And needling her about having short live sets (only 40 minutes, which he criticizes) and then asks her the non released title names and then says that if she doesn't know then he can tell her her song/album titles! When she remains understandably silent he then needles her again by labeling her sulky and then provokes her into commenting about his description of her. He also switches between languages without telling her what he's just said in the language (French) that she doesn't understand, and that lacks common courtesy. Other, more professional interviewers would say, "I've just told the audience such and such..." She told him to shut up in a playful way but he at least had the intelligence to understand that while it was delivered playfully, she was not liking his banter. I like Lana. I love her videos. Thumbs up for her. She was nicer to him than she needed to be.

I guess some english speaking people misunderstand the Lana's embarass and "shut up". These words were adorably said and funny. The thing here is that there’s a cultural barrier. For the French, when they hear ‘shut up’ it’s really rude, impolite and shocking, but when you say it in English, it doesn’t always mean that. Our humour is different; it’s not lacking respect, it’s just different! (C’est rien qu’une différence de culture. En anglais, si on dit ‘shut up’, ce n’est ni choquant, ni impoli. Notre sens d’humeur est différent et c’est souvent qu’on l’utilise différemment qu’on l’entend en français)
