This is one of the best break downs & comparisons on East Coast Florida to West Coast Florida!!! Thanks for the heads up about the shade in the late afternoon from the tall buildings on the East Coast & missing out on the sunsets that the West Coast gets to enjoy... that comment really got me. When i was younger I lived for a time in Ft Lauderdale. It was great in my 20s for a singles party town. Now that I am older the west coast and its laid back lifestyle is much more comfortable for me (as well as less expensive). I've outgrown my party days and anyway I love our sunsets.

Can't beat a sunset on the West Coast. If I were to move anywhere on the west coast, it would be the Tampa area. Just like you said Tampa seems to be up and coming too which helps compensate for how sleepy the rest of the West Coast is. Plus having another up and coming major metro 90 minutes away (Orlando) is a nice bonus.

That's an excellent point about the Red Tide. My family and I experienced it personally before we knew what it was. We had just driven from Miami to visit my sister-in-law in Port Charlotte. We stopped in Bonita Springs and thought we'd head to the beach. As we approached, walking through one of those long paths from the six-car parking lots to the beach, I told my wife, gosh, they must be cooking crabs out here on the beach. As we got closer and started to enter the sandy area, we noticed there were no people on the beach, yet the smell of crabs got stronger and stronger. We did finally see one couple about 400 yards away. I scurried over to them as they lounged in their lounge chairs and asked them, 'what in the world is going on?' Why is the smell of crab and fish so strong - and where are all the people. The guy said, "It's the Red Tide. Look over there," as he pointed to a mass of something on the beach. I walked over and then noticed the mass was all up and down the beach. The mass were dead fish, all beached and rotting along the shoreline. No wonder it stinks out here. Of course, now that I realized what I was smelling, the smell matched with my senses and it dawned upon me how bad the smell actually pierced my senses. That solidified my reason to not move to the Gulf Coast side of Florida. The Red Tide is a bummer. It's supposed to only happen only a few times every 10 or 15 years, but just in my five years of looking for where we are going to live, we have experienced it twice. The second time, we knew immediately what it was. That was enough for me. Besides, like Michael Bordenaro says, the waves are non-existent. For me and my family, it's the East Coast. Now, to pin down exactly where on the East Coast - well, that's the next chapter!
@MichaelBordenaro
@MichaelBordenaro 3 жыл бұрын
Wow what a story!You definitely found out the hard way about the red tide. At least now you know the East Coast is for you and like you said just need to nail down a spot. But I did some videos about affordable condos near the beach and there are plenty of them all up and down the Florida coast in some beautiful areas

I must say St Pete, particularly the downtown area, has really come a long way as far as development. I used to visit there in the '80s and 90's and it was a sleeper town but now you have beautiful high rises being constructed. Sarasota is also a lovely city.

I guess it depends on whether you consider development a good thing or bad thing. I loved St.Pete are back in the 80's and 90's. It is the same problem we are seeing in my hometown in Naples. And it is becoming increasingly unaffordable.

Yup, I live in Southwest Florida and he is pretty much right about everything. We came from the northeast but liked the lower traffic and laid back vibe of SW Florida and lower cost of living. We bought a house on the water with a boat dock, boat lift, pool, 2 car garage, in a waterfront town with waterfront resturants. We go boating and jet skiing alot all year long. We could not afford all that on the east coast. And the traffic is a small fraction of the east coast. All of my neighbors are retired mid westerners who brought their money with them. The joke we tell is that we don't have demographics. We have one demographic: Retired Midwestern white republicans.

You pretty much hit on the major differences between the two coasts, though there are variables within each coast that could sway one in favor over the other. Even on the SE Atlantic coast, there is a different level of excitement/activity from the Palm Beaches down to FLL and Miami. Regardless of which of the 3 you choose, you still l have access to the other two. As a tourist just looking for sun, sand and a party, many are lured to the Gulf coast, as it has nicer sand and the epic sunsets. However different parts of the Atlantic Coast have areas close to the Intracoastal, where you can see sunrise on the ocean, and sunset over the Intracoastal. Greater Tampa has lots of variety from Sarasota, Bradenton, St Pete, Tampa and Clearwater, and the downtown is happening now. Due to being more spread out, the traffic is not all funneled into one narrow strip along I-95, as it is in Miami. I wish there were better access between to the 2 coasts - quick, frequent cheap flights, or trains (I know Brightline will be expanding to include West Palm to Orlando, and Orlando to Tampa, but right now, the ugly boring drive across Rt 60, or crossing Alligator Alley and using I-75 are the only options. I think each coast gives you the chance to choose culture, quiet, high energy, etc. In the heat of summer, the breezes on the Atlantic are better, and the sun dipping behind buildings brings earlier shade to the beach (though that can be a negative in winter). I am no expert, and only 1 opinion (I love many different areas), but my favorites are the Palm Beaches on the Atlantic Coast and Sarasota/Siesta Key and Hyde Park in Tampa, on the West Coast, but lots of other beautiful areas. I could never live in a sleepy retirement area with no culture, and just early bird dinners and shuffleboard, but I also do not really want the intensity of Miami proper for year round living either - probably why I like the areas I mentioned the best. I think the suggestion of breaking down each coast into 6 or 8 mini-sections and doing a video on each, as well as Orlando and Ocala/the Villages would be valuable for lots of people, especially for those who have never been to Florida, or to only one small part. Interesting there was another video I watched about 10 best cities in Florida, and Dunedin came in #1 - the town where my grandparents lived for 40 years (just north of Clearwater Beach), and the first place in Florida I ever knew!

All great and accurate points! I'm 52 and considering moving from Boca to Bradenton, already have many friends on the west coast. I ride Motorcycles and it's just too congested on the southeast side, not to mention Everything is a North-South, East-West grid. No exciting roads for riding. Also when it comes to boating, if you have a small craft you're pretty much relegated to the Intercoastal, and it gets pretty boring going slow north and south. I am a morning person and love walking to the beach to watch the sunrise, but think I can easily get used to the sunsets! lol Great video, thanks

This is a great video. In my opinion, the east coast of FL appears to be more lush with deeper green vegitation than the west coast of Florida. This would make sense as the east coast tends to get a bit more rain than the west coast. As noted in the video, the waves are greater on the east coast, which lends to the east coast may seem to be more windy. Evidentually, I will need to rent on both coasts until I get it figured out.

Dude, another fine video. It is my understanding that if I take a moment or two to type some smack, that it helps your algorithms. That was some good subject matter to cover. Having lived in Florida for 30+ years, I would like to add one thing. A big part of the reason for the development of South East Florida, as opposed to South West Florida has to do with the water depths. They just can't take in the bigger vessels on the west side, and this factor is huge.

Fantastic video, Michael! For me, even though I LOVE Miami, I would want to live on the west coast around Sarasota or Naples. (Well, probs lay anywhere from the Tampa area on down to Cape Coral.). We have a neighbor here in San Diego who is in the process of buying a house in St. Pete, but still keeping their house here, so they can come back during the hotter months in Florida. Anyway, I was surprised to see that a two bedroom, one bathroom house with a pool snd on a canal, was $525,000.00! I was shocked that it was that high, even though the yard was large, had a pool snd was on a canal. The fact that a two bedroom, one bathroom was going for that much in St. Pete was surprising to me. However, you did say that prices are going up all over Florida. Also...my sister snd her husband had a house on a canal down on the Forgotten Coast of Florida, which is between the panhandle snd Tampa. It was at a place called Shell Beach. Talk about quiet nature! Very peaceful. If you have a stressful job snd want to escape, that’s the place! Too isolated for me. They eventually sold it after a few years of ownership.

I've lived in Florida for almost 50 years and a small part of that time I lived in Clearwater. Michael was spot on regarding the migration pattern of those coming to Florida and living here. What I didn't like about living on the west coast was that I found mid westerners to be very clannish people. If you were not from the mid west then you're "out." Mid westerners stick together and, I'm sorry to offend, but they were a bit unfriendly.

Love the accuracy of this video. When I was younger I always wanted to live on the east coast because it seemed more thrilling, now that I'm 30 I love how calm and chill the west coast is. What about the people on the east coast verses the west coast? The west coast Suncoast area is full of very friendly people. I’ve heard from many people that the east of of Florida has a lot of very rude and unfriendly people, mainly caused by the large number of people coming to the east coast of Florida from New York and New Jersey.

@@kathryncrowleybryan5844 That’s good tat you are very nice. But I keep hearing over and over from many people who lived in the Miami Dade area that people are rude and very unfriendly there compared to the Tampa to Punta Gorda area, where people are very friendly and not rude. I assume that it is true because I keep hearing that over and over. Since you live closer to the area, you should be able to have formed an opinion, by observing people around you, not yourself, if people are unfriendly and rude. Maybe you need to visit the west coast of Florida to compare the differences. I’ve only visited the Miami Dade several times and couldn’t confirm that about the people. However, the drivers in the Miami Dade area are absolutely rude and drive faster and much more reckless than the west coast of Florida. By fast, I mean it is common to see people driving 85 to 90 on the freeways there.where on the west coast of Florida, it is common to see people driving 75 to 80 on the freeways.

I’ve lived in Panama City beach for 2 years but been all around Florida and other us beaches and I gotta say, the emerald coast in north west Florida are definitely the most beautiful beaches in Florida, and definitely high up there with the nicest in the world. The sand is just so soft and white that it looks like snow and the water is so warm and clear/emerald and so clean. Also the sunsets every day are epic. And this is one of the only places in the world with coastal dune lakes, and we have some of the biggest ones. Only cons are that it gets pretty cold here. I know I’ll end up moving to south Florida just for the warmer weather but these beaches are the only thing keeping me here.

@@654Tennis Pensacola is nice but has some very ghetto areas. It’s more country vibe too. Destin is between Pensacola and Panama City beach and it’s kinda like the higher end version of Panama City beach. Apalachacola is nice but kinda smaller town. Lots of nice areas between Clearwater and fort myers but the beaches aren’t as nice as the emerald coast (between pcb and Pensacola) also the west coast is ridiculously expensive right now. I live across the street from the beach in pcb and I can find places for rent for the same price and same distance from the beach in south beach. I’m planning on moving to fort myers soon even though the beaches aren’t as nice, I just don’t like how cold it gets here even though it’s only a couple months. Obviously “the further south you go in Florida the further north you get” so the culture will be much different depending where you go. In pcb it’s kinda country vibe. Also between pcb and destin is the 30A area which is incredibly nice. Mostly residential so not much tourism and mostly families. Very nice area.
