East-West Metro, Kolkata (2024)

The East-West Metro, Kolkata, is all set for inauguration by Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, in March 2024. Running from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade, this 4.8 Km line boasts India's first underwater Metro tunnels, India's deepest Metro station, and India's deepest ventilation shaft, all constructed by Afcons. This Metro line, including the 520m stretch under the Hooghly river, and three swanky stations - Howrah Maidan, Howrah Station, and Mahakaran - will be a game-changer for Kolkata.

Afcons wasn't responsible for tunneling there. As mentioned in video, they did Hwh Maidan, Hwh Station and Mahakaran Stations, and tunneling upto Esplanade. Esplanade and beyond construction was by ITD-Cementation. Bowbazar falls in that section, where construction being done by ITD.

Kolkata metro stations look ugliest compared to pune or lucknow or Agra metro stations….why such basic designs with ugly colors like dark brown …rather than bright yellow or bright red like mumbai metro???
