Bhai I live in dum dum cantonment. When I was in class 6 that time metro work started, I completed my school, I completed my college, now I m doing job from last 2 years , still metro is not started , I think when I will retire from my job at that time it will start.

All points you mentioned, I fully agree with you. All those are main cause. Now if you search for another causes, they may be- 1.Lack of professionalism 2.Lack of new thought process 3.Lack of updation to metro officials about old and new crowded nodes of kolkata and suburbs. #MRB

Dhaka is building it's first metro line and it is building it pretty fast. In only two years it has made significant progress and hoping to lunch commercial service on 2021. I hope our brother city Kolkata would be able to resolve its problems on constructing metro as soon as possible. Some day these two cities will be connected by a high speed rail line. ^_^

Bangladesh has a good government , they have risen very fast , whereas Kolkata it is opposite , Kolkata was very developed City considering rest of the cities in 1970-80s but it has fallen afterwards . One of the reasons is Bangladesh adopted industrial friendly policies and WB govt had opposite policies .

if d metro corridors are ready..d maintenance of bridges could hv been done more efficiently..wd no alternate mode of transport available..d recent initiative by the state govt to block bridges and repair dem is very much neccesary but proving to be a huge trouble for commuters..for example if joka majherhat metro was ready...d majherhat bridge collapse wouldnt hv affected so much...smilary if dunlop was connected by metro...tala bridge repair wouldnt hv created such chaos

Thanks for making this very detailed video on Kolkata Metro. It has touched all the right points in explaining the delay in the Kolkata Metro project. Somehow the delay in the Kolkata Metro also reflects the declining importance of Kolkata in India's financial and strategic growth. I am very emotionally attached to Kolkata, but having lived for several years in Delhi and Bangalore, I have seen how those cities have transformed over the years and how my city of joy is left far behind. I think the video mentioned all the factors but one; the people of the state and their mindset. We Bengalis are stuck in time-wrap and their is hardly any discussion in the state on crumbling social infrastructure, lack of jobs and economic stagnation. If people think that changing the government alone will bring change, they are wrong. BJP if voted in 2021 can make some cosmetic changes, but there is a need for a change among the people. We Bengalis love to take pride in their culture, language, and identity; we should be , but our pride has turned into arrogance. We love to read books, debate on politics, to cinemas or any topic under the sun, but we don't debate on state’s poor finances and creaking infrastructure. Hope things change for better in future.

As per my knowledge the major reason is the lack of interest from state government. State government has money to waste for useless reasons but they don't have money for any development works on state.

When the current state regime is too busy funding "Parar Clubs", Durga Pujos, Maulanas' stipends... and so on, it's clearly visible where the priorities of the state govt in WB lies. The idea is to offer small tiny soaps for the undereducated section of the population (which continues to constitute the majority of Bengal's demographics today), in sheer exchange for their votes in the upcoming elections. As long as votes keep pouring in, and cheap policies and soaps are in offer, such attitude shall continue for good. Govts in West Bengal have successively been run by goons and thugs (earlier under the disguise of Bhadralok), and these rotten scumbags are least bothered to serve the interests and needs of the working class educated section of the population (who actually use infrastructure like Metro on a daily basis). They don't bother giving two hoots to the interests of the tax-paying citizens of the state. Only God can save Bengal, if at all there exists such an Entity...

Hats off to Delhi metro Im from Delhi here metro work is very fast.I joined a company in 2016 and 100m from my company a newly metro station started from foundation and within 2year it started working and now i comfortably reach my office

In Delhi metro case Japan , central govt and state government together provide funds, the metro infrastructure is developed and managed by an independent entity DMRC. Even the state govt has not paid its due in recent years and there are constant blame games by AAP and BJP. Still it has not delayed the project considerably.

You missed a point: the promise of keeping meager metro fares discourages finance people from the MoR to allocate money generously, as the break even period is unrealistically long with presently promised fares

Below are few cents from me: 1. Politicians are unsure of political dividends for such costly project success - can it damage their pro-poor image? 2. There is lack of matching grant from state due to other priorities 3. Foreign funding can only come if we work with reasonable deadline which is ruled out 4. Lower operating ratio due to low cost of tickets deters railway operation 5. There are vested interests from private bus and taxi/cab owners who are set to lose sizable business when metro shall be operational with criss-cross connectivity 6. Contractors are benefitting from price escalations for each phase of project delays. It is a lifetime business 7. State policy to re-settle illegal occupants encouraging newer occupants everyday 8. Finally, this delay is also helping builders to sell apartments with hopes and promises for metro connectivity. Some apartments are resold multiple times in this long waiting time. State is making money with stamp duty for each transaction as usual Last but not the least, with reasonable confidence we can wait another generation (40 to 50 yrs) for this project completion.

Why is our state like this????? I am from and grew up in Kolkata. I worked in Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon. Metro over there is just Amazing. As I love trains a lot so i found the network in Delhi Metro to be the best in India. But when I say these to my brothers in Kolkata, they have to say just one thing: " Bro, Do u know First metro started here, metro is pride of Kolkata and also that fare is minimun 5" Why are we like this??

From a Non Bengali who has stayed in Bengal for quite some time. My observations are. 1. Urban Bengalis are stuck in the past. Ask them anything..they will answer with some reference to the past. I mean past glory won't improve your future. Right? 2. Inflated ego of the state govt. 3. Unprofessionalism of the authorities.

First of remove so called CM from the chair , only then development is possible. Hyderabad took only around 2-3 yrs to build almost 40+kms of metro elevated. That’s how Telangana Govt is eager for state development. Sorry to say something for my own city Kolkata & WB Government, but it’s high time people should think regarding their voting rights & help to reduce corruption in d long run. Thanks a lot

Its true almost all metros are running on time in construction , apart from all metro lines in WB . They are running on time despite being obstructed by courts , this weeks Mumbai Metro example , they started work after few hours after the court cleared them for cutting trees .

State government politics is the main or only reason hindering infra projects. Same is the case in Kerala, another state in which even after getting central funds, projects drag on forever or are abandoned due to lack of interest by the local bodies

Whole-over India, Politics, bureaucracy. Not only metro. Yesterday I went to Airport (88 kms from my home) and it took 5 hrs (wheres usually it takes something around 3 hrs) due to congested road, narrow NH112. 16km/h, Can you believe it? Just like this I assure that the whole under construction Kolkata Metro wont be completed before 2025. Kolkata Metro is a shame for us. In April I boarded Delhi Metro even sit on train floor and Delhi brother addressed "Kolkata metro toh local train se bhi badtar hai". I can say that Delhi Metro is the pride for India not Kolkata....

Please provide a update on EW Metro & Airport to New Garia Metro. You had an opportunity to ask questions about photography to Metro Rail GM should have asked questions about slow pace of work. How can it be improved. Should have asked why Airport to New Garia Metro was allocated only 350 crores - why loans aren't being taken to fund Kolkata metro projects.

Hi dear . The work culture issue is not applicable today's date as its a contractual job . However , agreed upon the slow pace of the job. But why , Salt lake part is not opened post clearance . I believe , Bow bazaar is not the root cause .
