Found a 2021 Jeep SRT with 20k miles, Burgundy with tan interior & 1-owner. Upgraded from a 2020 Limited X with the 5.7 Hemi, night & day driving experience compared to the 6.4. One of the best vehicle purchases I’ve ever made. Test drove a few other sport style SUV’s; Audi SQ8, Porsche Cayenne GTS, BMW X5M. Those vehicles are very nice & have nicer interiors but they do not drive like the SRT. The SRT is my wife’s daily driver & she is getting 16.3mpg (99% of it on side roads). When taken on highway trips, mpg jumps to 18-19. For the $$$, the SRT is the best bang for the buck. Only complaint, squeaky brakes due to ceramic pads. One way to combat the squeak is to warm up the brakes within the 1st few minutes of the drive & then it goes away.

My new stock 2015 SRT Jeep was my first FCA Product. The SRT has a lot of personality and was the vehicle I got the most compliments in. The check engine light started coming on at 800 miles. Was on a road trip for work and the Jeep decided to go on a limp mode when the check engine light first came on and I was 150 miles from home. Over the course of 32k very well maintained miles, I’ve had three transfer cases replaced and the coil packs replaced twice due to a vacuum leak. What was frustrating for me was the dealership experience. I’ve tried several dealerships and there is always a long wait to see an actual tech. I had zero of the interior problems and the interior materials held up well. My calipers peeled but I let them be. Some of the glue/rubber on the outside peeled. Was up for a third set of coil packs and just got frustrated and traded my SRT in. I got my 2018 car on a Friday and the SRT was gone by Saturday so sold really quick. Was fun when I owned the SRT but wanted a more reliable vehicle not guessing if the check engine light would come on an off.

Bought a used (74K miles) 2012 WK2 SRT in 2018. In the first year of my ownership, I had two CPU's and a backup camera fail. Dead reliable after that first year. Yes, the wheel corrosion that lifts the paint is there. No big deal....my two WJ's (2004) had the same thing happen to their wheels. The 'smiles per mile' quotient on the SRT is worth it.

Thanks for the solid info for potential SRT peeps. I started out in late 2012 with a 2013 Alpine SRT, now in a 2017. My 2013 engine lost rod bearings around 20K. It took 3 months to get a short block due to availability issues. They don't have a rail car of extra engines laying around for these. You didn't mention the SRT dedicated hotline. They couldn't get me parts any faster but they were great about following up and actually calling me. Tires - totally agree. Verde's get you about 18K miles, had the P-Zero once. They were unable to be rotated at 9K. Yes NINE thousand miles, I got about 11K total. The GC has a spare tire, get a set of none run flats. Better ride, longer tread life, and no $400 per tire. I have had the Yokahoma on the 2013 and liked them. Have the Continental now. I like the beefier look, they are a little noisy now that they have 10K+ miles on them but I forgive that for a tire that costs $180. Mileage - I average about 15. I alternate between having the cruise at 5 over the limit and rolling 130 on 'private test tracks'. If you lock the cruise at 2,000 RPM or less it will get the 20 or so MPH highway that it's rated but what fun is that. Trim - hell yes. The piece that goes around the start button just totally popped out today. I've had the ones over the glovebox and passenger door replaced. The interior trim overall really could use some attention. Anything leather seems to hold up well. The carbon fiber issues and the panel on the drivers side of the rear hatch has never fit good even after a replacement, There just needs to be another attachment point to keep it pulled against the body. Steering wheel - I thought I imagined it at first but finally located the razor sharp edge you talk about. Brake pads. I drive and probably brake harder than average, front pads get me about 20K miles. There are many good aftermarket pads around $160, read the reviews to get ones that match your needs. Pads are VERY easy to replace with our calipers. Non Premium fuel, lol yeah I think we got the message out on that :) Just no. I miss living in SD where I had 105 at the pump. Had a motor mount fail on my '13. This caused the cooling fan to contact the radiator/trans cooler. $1800. This was AFTER the engine replacement. Called SRT and they paid the bill. After six years of driving the snot out of two WK2's I can say without a doubt they are above average mechanically even with the issues I've had. These are AMAZINGLY fun and powerful vehicles. This isn't like taking out your parents Mustang/Camaro/Charger when you were a teen. At freeway speed, a quick downshift and 10 seconds later your in 130+ MPH range but with traction control and GIGANTIC Brakes. My 0-60 on a decently cool morning after a 20 minute drive to work is about 4.6-4.8. with gross weight around 5300 lbs. Quarter mile times are right around 13.0 and dip into the 12.xx. There are videos out there of the SRT running very respectful laps on the Ring. The best part is the second you lift off the throttle, it's just another Grand Cherokee, nothing to see here.

Don't be too hard on your Jeep... All cars have maintenance issues. My 2014 Jeep SRT had some of the same faults you guys are experiencing. However, my maintenance issues are not as extensive as you guys. I did have carbon fiber warped, Error Code PO470, Back Pressure Sensor, Peeling Brake Caliper, Miss-fire code from faulty MDS Lifters, and now small bubbles on my dash. I have 136,000 miles on the vehicle and no other issues. The power train was completely built, Forged bottom end stroker Engine, Comp Cam, non-MDS lifters, ported & Polish Heads, Procharger, Full Return Fuel System, Paramount Racing Transmission with High stall Converter and all Aluminum driveshaft. Have 40,000 miles on this setup and no maintenance issues. All my previous cars were bought new, four picked up directly from the factory and they all had maintenance problems. 1984 Nissan 300zx Turbo 1986 Mazda 626 Turbo 1993 Volvo 850GLT 2001 Volvo V70 Turbo - Factory pickup (Sweden) 2002 BMW 5451 4.4 V8 - Factory Pickup (Germany) 2003 Mrecedes E55 AMG Sedan - Factory Pickup (Germany) 2006 Mercedes E55 AMG Wagon - Factory Pickup (Germany) And two other Jeep Grand Cherokee Summits, 2012 & 2013 They all had maintenance issues. The BMW started blowing blue smoke (burning oil) after 20,000 miles, along with many interior problems. I drove it down to the Factory in Munchen Germany, and they told me it was normal for the car to burn a little oil... I sold it a week later. My 2003 Mercedes AMG had camshaft problems, had to replace it at less than 20,000 miles. My 2006 Mercedes AMG, had its camshaft and lifters replaced at 30,000 miles, cylinder heads replaced at 37,000 miles, Transmission valve body replaced at 40,000 miles. The Nissan 300zx leaked water through the T-Tops, heating & air-condition failures, all under 20,000 miles. My point is... all vehicles will have maintenance problems. Automobile Manufacturers don't make everything on the vehicle. its a collaborative process, with other manufacturers. Most manufacturers use the "Just-in-Sequence" manufacturing process where the order is distributed to all their collaborators who then have to have their items at the assembly line in the proper sequence for assembly by robots. Sometimes they're under stress to meet the sequencing timeline. I believe it was BMW who had to file suit against Blaupunkt, some 30 years ago, for poor quality. It was alleged that they were skipping quality control checks in order to meet sequencing timeline. As the old saying goes... never buy a car that was built on a Friday!!

I watch your videos frequently, happy you're honest about the vehicle and you've provided some helpful insight since my purchase. I would never recommend purchasing a used SRT Jeep. More than likely the Jeep has been beat on its entire life. Of course there are exceptions. The Carbon Fiber problem you can fix yourself as with almost everything else, the WK2 is very simple to work on. If you purchase the Jeep used look into the vehicle owner history and how long the owners have owned the vehicle, that right there can tell you how well it was taken care of. You're going to replace every bushing, isolator mount, and strut on the entire vehicle especially if the vehicle was driven in Detroit......Like mine wohooo! A used SRT Jeep, or any USED SRT is a gamble. For instance, I purchased my 2012 SRT Jeep 6.4 on Christmas this past year. I have already replaced the water pump, front axles, upgraded to a EA Transmission, New spark plugs, two coil packs, blower motor, fixed some of the carbon fiber, replaced the condenser and trans cooler, had a transmission hose blow off and soak the engine in trans fluid. Replaced the upper radiator hose and New tires, coolant, Diff fluids, Trans fluids, oil changes and filters. So within 8 months I have "invested" $8,000+ and that is with doing all of the labor myself. Part of the problem may be that I probably drive many more miles than the average Jeep SRT owner. I have already put 15,000 Miles in 8 Months. If you're going to purchase a USED SRT Jeep I hope the rest of your life is in order, you have the knowledge to work on your vehicle yourself with the tools, and you happen to have a reliable beater to drive when the Jeep is stuck in the shop. Otherwise, Good luck driving to work and making your payment when the JEEP becomes a sitting duck. If you plan on doing your own maintenance, and are willing to spend $2000/Month on your USED JEEP....remember its a JEEP..... But If you're willing and able to , I will warn you, I still LOVE MY JEEP. Disclaimer: Probably not the best investment for those with significant Student Loan Debt. *Not from experience...... "yeah right" And i tell myself...."best investment yet"

I have a 2015 SRT and have had the water pump go out and the trim issues. Replaced the carbon fiber trim once and it's starting to peel again. Also, there is some peeling on the wheels. I don't know, if that's all that I'm really going to have to deal with, then I'm okay with it. I buy a lot of new cars from all brands (foreign and domestic) and every car has had some issues. I love the SRT. It looks great, it drives great and so I would buy another. The only real issue I have with the car is the service at the dealers. JEEP/Chrysler service generally sucks pretty bad. The SRT is basically a luxury vehicle, but you have to get it serviced at a Chrysler dealership which just don't provide the same service you get at Lexus, Infiniti etc. An SRT is typically by far the most expensive car that the service center sees (by quite a margin) and they don't see them all that often. When you buy a $76,000 car, you expect the service to match that price point, but Chrysler just does not do that. Great car though. It's worth the hassle. I"m sure people like that like Range Rovers or BMWs will say the same thing even though those brands also have issues. Oh and yeah, don't buy it if you want to save on gas. My other car is a hybrid, so it sort of cancels things out I guess.

Hey there - about your CF Trim separating from the doors etc. If the issue you have is the complete CF trim piece starts to separate from the doors/dash etc., I know a product that might help to reattach and keep the CF Trim in place for good Sika 291i Marine Adhesive I use this stuff on my boat to stick stuff like teak railings to seats etc. - it's extremely good stuff and I'd expect would work AOK with a CF trim-piece used 'indoors' If your CF Trim is delaminating however, then that's a whole different issue

I had the car into the dealership as well as opened 2 claims with SRT in regards to the Typical FCA Brembo squeak. I eventually fixed it on my own by spraying anti-vibration onto the back of the pads, I did that on my Hellcat as well and that fixes the problem instantly. I don’t beat on my cars, I keep them clean and up to date with all maintenance. The Jeep has been extremely reliable. Don’t hesitate to buy one as they are great vehicles and I get compliments still 5 years later on it.

Great vid. Te water pump issue is also common a failure in many German cars, especially in very hot weather. They are made from some kind of plastic material so they crack in hot weather. My Tiguan always had water level alarm on, but the engine temperature was never heating up. I’ve rented a Porsche Cayenne GTS and had leakage as well. I had to totally stop the car to let it cool down then add coolant. Here in Dubai, I discovered that even the agency is replacing it by a refurbished one.

Fellow car guy here, and enjoyed this video. And nothing wrong with enjoynig a fun vehicle BUT we have to call out things as they are. I tallied up all the items that the SRT broke and this is NOT a reliable vehicle at all: Steering wheel aluminum trim peeling Water pump replaced Blower motor replaced Carbon fiber trim peeling Headlight replaced Fuel door replaced Windshield seal leaking Door lock actuators replaced Brake caliper clear coat peeling Wheel center cap bubbling Again, not a knock against performance vehicles as we know they are likely to be less reliable, but seems like the stereotype is still true that FCA (Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep) products are pretty bad at quality and reliability. I just wanted to thank you for making this video. I personally could not deal with the all the build quality issues and spending the time to fix them. Moving soon, going to be finding a new job, wife wants to buy a house and start a family. So yeah the last thing I need is a car that is going to be a headache. Thanks again.
@FredFons15 жыл бұрын
Thanks great vid. Just bought a low mileage 2018, finally at 65 treated ourselves to a performance car for Christmas. We had a Grand Cherokee before so it wasn't that hard to convince the wife. Although she didn't know how hot the car was until on way home from dealer a pickup with a mom and teenage daughter rolled down their window to tell us how much they loved the car! But, sometimes it seems it won't come out of 1st gear. Not sure if it is me having my hand on shifter or touching something I should not have. It did it twice at random when starting to go after stopped. I can't seem to replicate it. It feels like it is in 4 wheel low. I pushed shifter to left and back again and it went into proper gear. Its my wife's daily driver she has not had that problem. Enjoyed the nostalgic tour around Mayfair. Hope it is still a great place to live.
@EastCoastJeepSRT5 жыл бұрын
Sadly, Mayfair isn't the same as it was back in the 80's and 90's, but still has a lot of nice pockets. If you're driving an SRT and it feels like it's hanging in gear, it's supposed to if you're in Sport or Track Mode. It's anticipating you to get back on it. Better for racing. If you bumped the paddle shifter then maybe that's what caused it to hang? I wouldn't know unless you could replicate the problem and recorded it. Wouldn't worry about it now though.

Hey man I've watched this video many times before but I just picked up a 2015 limited for my daughter and was very impressed so now I'm really interested in the SRT possible to replace my 06 TB SS I'm not worried about mpg only mps I thank you for all the details about owner ship seems good to me I don't think that people understand that at some point all vehicle will.need work and that's just the nature of anything mechanical that's why the make replacement parts and technicians . Every manufacturer has an issue with something I know I've been in the business since 1984 and I'm a car guy so I read about cars all the time so people think that the foreign cars are better but I've come to know that people only complain about things on American cars because they don't hear about what goes wrong with the foreign cars and bise versa but it's just a machine they all need work sooner or later!

It’s not simply being able to afford premium gas, I think people want performance with a budget at the same time. What’s more important though, Prius affordability or a vehicle that moves 😉

Thanks for the info, just found your videos today as I picked up my 2017 SRT from having the water pump replaced. I knew something was off, it was loud, i thought power steering or just belt going. 45k miles (bought new), extended my warranty to 60k but sounds like it would have been covered either way based on the 7yr. I am now looking at the springs and exhaust after 3 years of ownership.

I have a V8 JGC, I love the vehicle but have had to replace the water pump, the brake booster, the fuel door and had it in for another recall. My top of my dashboard has also severely wrinkled in the GA heat and looks terrible. I enjoy my vehicle overall and I long for an SRT, but this is why my wife told me to get a Chevy.

Great review Buddy. Bit of an eye opener to some of the issues you've experienced. I own a 2017 SRT purchased in January this year, and my son owns a 2014 SRT, we both have looked at the panel alignments and have found both of our vehicles have really sloppy alignment on the tailgate, on both SRT's the rear window on the tailgate has not been aligned correctly, and there is a gap of approximately 3/8" on one side and around 1/16" the other. So my SRT I will try to get corrected while it's under warranty. A little disappointing but I guess they are never going to be perfect when being mass produced. Besides that we've never had any problems, and we love them.

Hey Guys, I'm an Aussie SRT owner… Personal opinion! Looks amazing but overall I was a little disappointed with its standard power to weight ratio, a huge wind break and far too heavy. Kerb appeal is nice, but from its lack of excitement on road I don't drive it much and tend to drive my work vehicle more so I'm considering a complete change of toy. Need more fun for dollars spent so I'm considering selling the Jeep for AWD Ford Focus RS. Living country with so many good high climbing twisty roads I think more fun to be had in an RS Focus than driving a big bus around town. Any additional HP the Jeep could have is really pointless unless I was living near a 1/4 mile drag strip and being an ex bike racer I do prefer going around fast corners than straight line speed. Plus, 5 to 600 HP in any city here is wasted when cops are too eager to issue fines and impound notices... (Subscribed. Thanks)

I have a Chrysler 300 SRT8 here in Perth, plumped for that because it was much cheaper than the equivalent Jeep (and a bit faster). You could do worse than have drive in one, I think brand new the Core is $65k on the road, which is just a bloody bargain. And I'm sure you'd get that down to $60k with a bit of hard bargaining. The Focus RS has a problem with the floating head, and replacing gaskets (as Ford has been doing) will just shift the problem onto owners when they fail once the cars are out of warranty.

I agree for the smiles per gallon. I've a diesel and looking for an upgrade as its 12 yrs old now. I do love its torque, equivalent almost to the 5.7hemi. But now thinking of moving away from turbos. My alternative is the 6.2ltr SSV wagon but not sure on going for a GM product.
@index67386 жыл бұрын
Couple of other issues to watch out for...intermittant or blue screen when using rear camera due to electrical connector block to main harness pin corrosion. Located in tail gate behind trim panel. Clean connector pins, and a strange one, intrument cluster lens may crack for no reason, can replace lens if oow, cheaper, or entire cluster replaced if in warranty.

Josh at HHP is the man. I described over the phone an issue I was having and he was able to tell when I went to two dealers who actually looked at it and couldn't figure out what was going on. They were way off. Turned out to be what I'm hearing all 5.7, 6.1 and 6.4 in which I have in my 2012 300 SRT, have lifter failure. Which I caught to late, and it shredded my camshaft.
