I found a Hinckley in a boatyard in Long Beach CA and bought it for $500. It was 28 feet, made of wood, but didn't have a motor, but wasn't in bad shape otherwise. I worked at a sheetmetal business at the time and put in heavy stringers for a small 60 hp cat diesel that had been overhauled. I removed the old fuel tanks and put in aluminum tanks holding almost 90 gallons. I made half the deck over fuel tanks as I formed them to fit in the bilge areas. After I was done I had a nice fishing boat for my weekends. All in all I spent $7000 for a $30,000 boat. I replaced a lot of the wood with Aluminum or stainless, all rails, cleats were stainless. I even made a 35 pound stainless Danforth anchor. Made a nice 60 gallon bait tank and same size fish hold and ice holder. It comfortably fished and slept 4 people. I used it for 4 years and sold it for $12,000. It had a 110 fathom depth finder and vhf radio and direction finder. I then bought a bigger boat. Usually I just went to Catalina Island or fished the Orange County coast out of Huntington Harbor where I had it slipped. Would sleep in the Harbor if we didn't go to Catalina. If my dad was taking his boat to Santa Barbara Island I would go out following him sometimes. I cruised at 12 knots burning a little better than 2 gallons an hour. If I had not of worked at a metal shop it would have cost a lot more to fix it up like I wanted, the anchor alone was worth $400 in 1980's money.

I've been a lover of boats all my life and all I can say is, this is one of the most beautiful boats I've ever seen, in its size/price range, that is.
