She wanted to change her surname back to Beale and Ben hoped she'd change her surname back to Mitchell, so he felt like Kathy saw him as less of a son compared to Ian.

@@dionknight216 Ben overreacted. Kathy didn't want to change her name back to Mitchell because we all know what her marriage to Phil was like, and in the end, Kathy left Phil and took Ben with her. Until her so called "death", Kathy never wanted the Mitchell's to be involved in Ben's life and Ben grew up thinking that Gavin was his dad. What Ben doesn't understand is that he's also a Beale.

@@keiranclarke2955 I agree with you. He was much better than the two previous Ben's(Charlie Jones and Joshua Pascoe). In fact I think, he was the best Ben. The current Ben (Max Bowden) is brilliant, don't get me wrong. But for me, Harry Reid just added that bit of emotion and a bit of a vulnerable side to the character.
