This is when EastEnders was genuinely about the quality of the dialogue and developing the characters...in comparison it's a virtually unwatchable soap now.

I'll say one thing, Letitia Dean handled her "Celebrity" much better than Daniella Westbrook. She may not have had the "issues" that Daniella had but to be able to grow up in front of The Soap Nation and keep one's "sanity" is truly a blessing.

Agreed but I think Daniella had already suffered a lot of sexual abuse and issues before EE she didn’t have a great start but Daniella definitely indulged in it instead of getting better

What I love about Eastenders and other UK Soaps is that there are Actresses who are born to play certain Characters. Jessie Wallace (Kat Slater) Lacey Turner (Stacey Slater) not to mention Steve McFadden (Phil Mitchell). Wouldn't it be cool if it were discovered that Steve was related to Gene McFadden of McFadden & Whitehead (Ain't No Stopping Us Now). They Co-Wrote The Backstabbers (The O'Jays) Bad Luck & Wake Up Everybody (Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes).

God Letters are a disaster on Soaps. Thorne Forrester keeps a Letter from Caroline to Ridge saying she still loved "him". He was in love with her and he and Brooke Logan conspired to keep her and Ridge apart. They of course got caught. Then Greg Nelson on All My Children gets a Letter the day his true Love Jenny Gardner is about to Marry a Man named Tony Barclay. He drives like a Bat out of H#ll to stop the wedding and he achieves it.
