Her foster mother changed her name to Rebecca. That's where the name Bex sprung up from.

Kerryann Bradley she wasn’t her foster mother she was adopted . The adoptive parents were killed And that’s how Sonia got rebecca back

Sonia was nuts. She shouldn't have been taking people's babies. That's serious. Everyone told her to keep her and she didn't listen. No wonder the adoptive parents wanted to get away. No one could blame them. And Pauline was too nice. Taking a baby, changing her into another baby's clothes

This reminds me of from Coronation Street. A character named Alison gave birth to a baby boy but soon lost him (due to his sudden illness) the next day. At the end of that episode, Alison sneaks and snatch Bethany who was Sarah's baby (who was also pregnant) and she's been hiding Bethany for few days after everyone finds out she took Bethany and in some of the later episodes, Kevin tries to convince Alison to give Bethany back and she did before she runs off and got hit by a lorry in the middle of the road with everyone watches in horror. Don't worry, it didn't show anything else. Just people surrounding the lorry and the ambulance and police were there too.
