EastEnders - Whitney Dean Finds Out Her Baby Has Omphalocele (1st February 2023)

Since she appeared on the square in 2008, Whitney has never had a happy storyline. How depressing is this? Why are they doing this to the character? Every character deserves a happy storyline at some point. They seem keen on making her like Ronnie with the constant sad and depressing storylines. It's out of order. She deserved to have a baby. She just wants to be pregnant and a mum. I wish Lauren or Bianca was there to help her. Thankfully Kat was. Phenomenal acting by Shona as always. I am gutted for Whit :(

I'm not sure why this story went this way it's absolutely unfair for Whitney to have a miscarriage the first time around and now she has to deal with something even worse her baby won't have a long life along with the father having HIV without her knowing she's got the worst luck ever

She could've been happy with Lee but she ruined that. And in typical Whitney fashion she acted like she did nothing wrong in their relationship and was a victim.

@@fastvalkary725 the relationship was ruined because the actor who plays Lee wanted to leave. And they didn't want to recast, thus giving us a terrible storyline.

@Fast Valkary Of course. But the writing on EE for Whit is ALWAYS depressing. I understand its a soap. But it needs to be a balance. A character can't constantly have depressing or sad storylines. That's just bad writing. Whitney deserves a win at some point. In 14-15 years, it's just been one thing after another.

I haven't watched Eastenders in years, but I came running over when I overheard my colleagues watching this episode because My cousin's baby was born with this. He's now a happy thriving baby, he will need more operations as he gets older but by the time he's an adult he will just have a unique belly button and a cool story to tell his friends. I seriously hope the show doesn't go with the "baby doesn't survive" storyline, Omphalocele is NOT a death sentence and children born with it can lead normal lives.

My son has an omphalocele so very interesting to see it in media. I'd never even heard of it before having him but i remember very clearly the ultrasound technician going very quiet.

I have an omphosele and I'm absolutely fine, my parents where told I could be born with Edwards syndrome too but luckily I wasn't

So an omphalocele can be totally spontaneous especially if large like my sons (his liver and intestines are in the omphalocele) or it can be a side effectof a chromosomal disorder mainly trisomy 13, 18 or 21. Im so grateful his is isolated but we still have a long journeu ahead.
