Been watching the classic episodes during quarantine and I watched this one a few weeks back. Epic speech. Legend has it that the late great Barbara Windsor, 4‘11“, required a 📦 to stand on for this scene. Apparently during rehearsals the directors worried that audiences would find Peggy laughable, despite her trying to come across as formidably fearsome, however with Frank and Pat towering over her, it dwarfed both Peggy and the scene, so a box was inserted to heighten, not only the tension, but Peggy as well.

Proper Eastenders. In this era you had the Steve Owen & Matthew rose storyline, Grants Exit in the Thames, then this, then who shot Phil, then you ain’t my mother, then Little Mo & Trevor, Jamie’s death and Steve Owens death. Just bangers of storylines one after another. Was truly unmissable back then. Then I’d say 04-06 it was pretty bad. Then they introduced Max & Tanya Branning and it had a revival with the affair with Stacey. And they bought in Ronnie & Roxy who were good characters. The whole Ronnie, Archie & Danielle story was great. Then after ‘who killed archie’ it’s been a slow decline. I stopped watching not long after ‘who killed archie’ cause it became unwatchable and I haven’t been back since. I hear it’s beyond unwatchable now. It’s a shame cause back in the day when I was a kid it was unmissable. EVERYONE watched it. Now does anyone???
