March 31, 2024 - Easter Sunday.
Readings: Acts 10: 34a, 37-43; Psalm 118: 1-2, 16-17, 22-23; Col 3: 1-4 John 20: 1-9.
The readings for the Easter Sunday Year B, remind us of the incredible love and victory that we find in Jesus' triumph over death.
In today’s first reading from the Acts of the Apostles, we hear Peter proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ. He testifies to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, proclaiming that through his death and resurrection, all who believe in him receive forgiveness of sins. This message of salvation is not limited to a select few but is offered to all who believe in the name of Jesus, regardless of their background or status.
The responsorial Psalm echoes this sentiment of praise and thanksgiving for the deliverance and salvation that comes through God's love. We are reminded to give thanks to the Lord for his mercy endures forever. The resurrection of Jesus is the ultimate expression of God's mercy and love for us, as he triumphs over sin and death to offer us eternal life.
In the second reading from the letter to the Colossians, we are urged to set our minds on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. We are called to live our lives in light of the resurrection, letting go of earthly desires and focusing on the things of God. The resurrection of Jesus empowers us to live with a new perspective, seeking the things of heaven and not being weighed down by the cares of this world.
In today’s Gospel, we encounter Mary Magdalene at the empty tomb, filled with grief and confusion. Yet, as she encounters the risen Christ, her sorrow is turned to joy and disbelief to faith. The resurrection is a powerful reminder that God's ways are not our ways and that through Christ, all things are possible.
