I've been chasing this song for years and years. I couldn't remember who sang it, I couldn't remember the name of the band. Only a few notes and that year resonated with me. And then tonight I finally listened to it again after 30+ years. A rediscovered friend

Born in 1969, and this song was in my head throughout the 1980s. It was the one song that captured our history and our rage. What a powerful alternative to U2

I bought the 12" of Whistling In The Dark in 1986. Great band, much better albeit less productive than another Irish Band I can think of.

Didn't Easterhouse come from near Manchester?

Yes; you're right; they were formed in Stretford. It can't have been a lot of fun growing up in the North of England in the seventies / eighties. They remind me a lot of The Chameleons.

Named after a socially deprived but rebellious housing estate in the East End of Glasgow? I was born and bred there. It had a reputation for violence in the 60's and 70's which followed me wherever I worked. Naw, cannae be....McIntyre.

@@thomasw.glasgow7449 Pleased to make your aquantance Thomas. There is definitely something in these socially "deprived" areas like Easterhouse, Drumchapel and Castlemilk which I think exposed the thin veneer beneath the Glasgow personality which is basically "don't take shit,". Where formal education moulds you to conform to what 'society' needs it did nothing for me. We looked at "society", we measured "society" and we found "society" wanting. We shouldn't have been judged on postcodes. Society betrayed us and our parents who arrived in these places so full of hope. I'm proud of where I was born and bred and despite the discrimination I won't hold back when asked where I come from - Easterhouse.
