What a moment for Coach Creighton and his team! Eastern Michigan is one of the greatest overlooked stories in CFB. This program was possibly on the verge of being dropped when he took over, and they were among the worst in CFB by far (they hadn't been to a bowl since the 80s IIRC). Now they're making bowls regularly and routinely knocking of Power 5 schools. Absolutely incredible. Salute to EMU from an Iowa fan! Amazing job.

I really didn't know anything about them and the first time I heard of them was when we (the badgers) beat them 35-7 last season to start the year off then the next thing I know they're like 8-4 for two years in a row and I'm like what the heck. This season they were almost single-handedly responsible for getting the HC of AZ St fired amidst other turmoil within that program.

@@mkepioneet I remember D-II possibly to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) , with Grand Valley State, Ferris State, Michigan Tech, Lake Superior State, Saginaw Valley State, etc. EMU was really struggling as a football program for decades, after their success during the mid-late '80s (They were EMU Hurons at the time). I think with their mens basketball program having more success , postseason play over the decades kinda helped prevent the forced classification downgrade. What ECU HC has done over the last 7 years at EMU is impressive, with multiple winning seasons, bowl games and now another bowl win. They have beaten FBS teams over the years as well. Rutgers, Purdue, Illinois, Arizona State, etc

When they picked off that last one it was such a sense of relief. 21 years after I first stepped food on campus and they finally win a bowl game. Only won 16 games in the 5 years I was there and have won 16 in the last two. Started to think I would never see it. I worked in the athletic department when I was a student so felt connected to all the sports so winning this game was huge to me. I know fans of the big schools say there should be less bowl games and maybe they're right but then fans like me wouldn't have the enjoyment I experienced last night. Game started off bad and I thought it would be a butt kicking like last year but after that blocked PAT returned, it was a different game. During the game they said SJSU I think only had 6 turnovers all year and had 3 in this game alone.

Man, did anyone in the comments watch the game? This was damned entertaining, and it all came down to one team doing a better job capitalizing on the mistakes of the other. Although SJSU outgained EMU in all phases of the game, they made too many costly mistakes and EMU was all business when it came to cashing in on those mistakes. Respect. Both of these QBs and O lines are ballin too, and were fun to watch. I gotta give mad respect to Creighton and Brenan both for pulling together two programs that have not really been that good in the past few decades, and doing it the right way. Can't wait to see how both these programs develop in the coming years. Keep at it. Anyway, props to EMU for taking this one ... from an SJSU grad ;-)

They had a game scheduled with New Mexico State one week, but SJSU’s running back suddenly died and the game was indefinitely postponed. I guess they never came to an agreement on a different time and just cancelled the game.
