This is my favorite type of bonsai video. Raw material transformation.

Super helpful, to learn how to think big picture rather than the ‘instant bonsai’ that everyone wants. Big love from Sydney Australia.

Thanks for sharing a brand new textbook tree kind of project, I love these 👍🏻👍🏻 I'm looking forward to those new artist curated trees on your site, hoping to see a Chinese Elm in there, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I'm in love with my large Chinese Elm from you, it has been flourishing!

I have been taught to work on the Nebari first. So I was confused why you didn’t?
@sharonbuckley45913 жыл бұрын
Me too so I was also wonder why you didn’t explore the base to see what it looked like
@DonHawkinsPhoto3 жыл бұрын
Is it possible, if you were to dig down to find the nebari, it might be low enough that the first branch on the left can be used since it would essentially be higher on the trunk?
@lefthandluke89233 жыл бұрын
Thank you for asking the same question I had. Total respect to Jason (he's forgotten more than I'll ever learn!) but it seems like a mistake not to rake back that top layer of soil at the very beginning.

Awesome video! Thanks for all the tips and infos you put in your videos! Especially for beginners like myself! One big question i have with every juniper i have handled the past 2 years. After every major action i take on my junipers ( either pruning branches or roots) i get on the leaves spike one instead of that smooth fine leaf. How can i handle the tree so that it doesn't affect the growth that much?

I have a number of badly overgrown juniper bushes in my yard that I would like to thin down to a bonsai like tree - can you do a video on how to do that?
@BenoitStPierre3 жыл бұрын
Is the guidance to leave the roots at this point? I kept waiting to see how to set up the tree below ground.
@Iosis63 жыл бұрын
Typically speaking you don't want to do any root work if you have cut off this much foliage. Its also just generally speaking not the time of the year that you want to do it. I am surprised he didn't dig down into the put a bit to look at the base of the tree.

When do you repot the tree?
@jeffmyers84333 жыл бұрын
Did you place it back in the original container? If so how long would it remain in that container? Awesome video Thank you!
@Iosis63 жыл бұрын
He did from the way he talked about it. I'd wager he either repots it into a training pot in the spring or it stays in this container for 2 or 3 more years.

Could you leave those really long branches of you wanted to? My aesthetic loved the look of those long branches-

I don’t understand, why did you take it out of the pot? How did it stay together so well?

If potting back into the same container would you place it flat to grow on or at the angle we are viewing it at the end?

What's the initial (first months) after care for junipers after such a hard pruning ? I was afraid of doing something like this in one go because I thought junipers don't like too much stress at a time. I suppose you don't repot this this and keep it in its original container ? Also I live in a warmer mediterannean climate zone 9.5-10, so I think I should wait until the middle of the winter to do handle junipers like this.

I ordered... received wrong bonsai tree, Eatern Leaf is the only one who can sell juniper bonsai to California residents. People like brussels nursery in other states can't sell Juniper bonsai to San Diego. Juniper law should be changed in California.
