Columbia games actually used to have this as a computer game. I used to play it with a college wargame buddy after he moved out of state. Those were great games...

I've loved the block games. Most are very playable, this is probably the hardest one in the lot, and it's not bad. The only painful part is the Price, it's pretty steep retail.

This game is still $89-$99 online. Why are block war games so expensive when the components are so basic? I came across Rommel in the Desert in a thrift shop for $5 and keep kicking myself for not picking it up.

Hmmm…I dunno. Maybe it’s because the pieces are painted wood blocks instead of 2mm thick cardboard.

The comments on won and lost are mostly right but the western allies had a huge say in it too not only in sending supplies to the Russians but also in the battles they fought so the whole Germany army could never be deployed in Russia. also enigma played a big part in letting the Russians knowing what the Germans were planning at times .so I would say a joint effort to defeat the nazies who knows what would of happened had the Germans deployed there full weight in Russia .

Hi Chief! I have been considering buying this game and looking through the promotional material I have noticed an error in the map. On the map, the town of Kalach, just west of Stalingrad, is on the west bank of the Don River, whereas it actually sits on the east bank. Trust me, I've been there! I wonder how many other errors there are?

back when my buddies were playing axis and allies with xeno games world at war rules i bought western front never got around to getting the eastern one to connect. this is always the game that got away from us we never ended up playing it because we felt we wanted both fronts. tried looking for a solitaire way to play but never could find one. i should try n find a eastern cheap see if my buddies will be down to play. we play axis and allies when our family lives permit it but i always saw the greatness and potential in this game.

Certainly not a first one :) Joe Steadman has reviewed at least a few of wargames on this channel.

I've also enjoyed your whiskey reviews. Do you ever sip whiskey while playing war games?
