I am a master cabinet maker, in the UK, and know several luthiers as we all share a passion for wood and tools. This is what real workshops look like. They smell great too, of wood...A great workshop is one with light and a a bonus if you have space too. Also one where you have your own bench. Would love to visit this place.

It’s like these Eastman instruments are being “born” right before my eyes. I just bought a E10SS and hands down the craftsmanship is second to none. I am a full time professional musician for over 25 years and feel like a kid on Christmas Morning when I play my Eastman. Thank you!

I've had 3 Eastman guitars and can attest to the craftmanship compared my E20p with a collings parlour about 7 years ago and they were near identical in every way including tone. The only 2 areas where the Collings came out on top was price and the tuners. So I returned the Collings for a refund. I've got my 4th on order now an ac422ce-ae and can't wait.

For about 15 years, I only owned one acoustic guitar (Martin DXME), which I eventually sold because I wanted something a bit smaller and more fingerstyle-oriented. After some extensive shopping (and an excellent offer on reverb) I eventually pulled the trigger on a used Eastman AC308CE-LTD. My Eastman is simply one of the finest instruments I’ve ever played, and I don’t see myself ever getting rid of it. I’d love to see the factory myself someday, and at the very least I’d love to play any Eastman I can get my hands on! Love & respect to the workers who make these phenomenal instruments.

Handmade guitars vs, CNC mass produced guitars. It's one reason Eastman's sound, play and look exponentially better than anything costing 2-3 times as much. I own a SB/59 Classic Varnish and have yet to own (have owned 3) or play a custom shop Gibson Les Paul that compares, which makes me sad as I have loved my Gibson's. But this video also shows how Gibson's used to be made-- by hand. But no more. They simply do not compare to the Eastman's.

To those who commented on the seemingly poor work conditions in the Eastman factory and alluded to slave labor. I have visited many American factories where the conditions are much, much worse than seen in this video. Who gives a shit what the walls look like. And look at all the windows in the Eastman factory! You won't find many American factories with windows in them. (Even in the front offices). Go to 2:29 in the video and take a look at the broad smile of that factory worker. That doesn't look much like the attitude of a slave. Regarding their pay scale, I would be willing to bet that they are compensated pretty well according to Chinese standards or they would work somewhere else. Each worker at the Eastman factory is mentored by expert craftsmen and the the high level of craftsmanship in their products is absolutely amazing. If you have ever seen, held and/or played an Eastman you know what I mean. Today, the instrument and bow making workshops at Eastman operate in precisely the same manner as late 19th century European workshops. They have virtually no power tools aside from the band saws used to cut out the necks and the outlines of the tops and backs of instruments. Chisels, knives, gouges, and scrapers, in the hands of outstandingly gifted craftspeople, are the primary tools used to create these modern instruments and bows, using methods centuries old. Thanks to Eastman, string players today have advantages unknown to earlier generations: quality Cellos, Violas, Guitars & Bows, available world-wide at affordable prices. Just price out a custom guitar handmade by a Luthier and the cost will run into the thousands of dollars. Made precisely like the guitars in this video I might add. Kudo's to Qian Ni founder of Eastman and his vision to keep tradition and quality alive.

@@osamabinladen824 It might have changed a bit now, but they were definitely having big trouble keeping up with demand for a while there, and it's just economics that the prices go up if demand is higher than supply. I think they've gone up probably around 10-20% over the last year or two, so that's not a big rise given general inflation, and they must have sorted out how to produce more instruments, because they seem to be a little easier to find at the moment.

I’ve recently purchased my first Eastman acoustic guitar: an AC322. I also have a Crafter (made in Korea), a Breedlove (made in Korea), a Taylor (made in Mexico). My next guitar will almost certainly be an Eastman too because these guitars are truly excellent for a very reasonable price. However, watching this video was not reassuring at all: the Eastman luthiers seem to work very very quickly. Too quickly?
@ViaticalTree
@ViaticalTree 4 жыл бұрын
Here’s a guess. Maybe since there don’t seem to be individual luthiers who do every step from start to finish, each worker becomes very well practiced, efficient, and quick at their step. The build quality is very impressive on mine. You don’t hear of many quality issues, though no company is perfect.

So, where are these guitars made?
@aceglass2577
@aceglass2577 7 жыл бұрын
China.... I know that many people hesitate at that, but here's my take on this particular Chinese company: This is a family of woodcarvers that dates back many years. The reason I mention that is because it seems to me that the main objection to "Chinese Made" is due to the fact that many American companies have pulled their manufacturing out of the United States and set up shop in China for the express purpose of maximizing profits oftentimes resulting in a lesser quality product, hence giving the "Chinese Made" label a bad name This is not the case with Eastman. Their story is quite different and they are definitely NOT in that classification. They are truly a Chinese company simply making the best product that they know how, and they do not seem to be driven by the corporate model of lower quality and higher profit. Through trial and error they have steadily improved their product, having started out as classical instrument company, and then expanding to other instruments such as guitars. There has been, I believe, a steady and sincere attempt at achieving a loftier goal of making the best that they can. I think the results speak for themselves.

So, I went to the Guitar Shop the other day down here in Costa Rica and Played a 3k$ Gibby Hummingbird and a few different 900$-range Taylors and a couple of the 1200-1800$ Martins & Taylors. My Favorite Guitar in the Shop was a 700$ Eastman. Knew nothing about the brand, just loved the way it felt and played. I was actually a little upset when I looked in and saw that it was made in China ... because Chinese guitars SHOULD NOT be that much better than American guitars (price-point-wise). I was seriously impressed with their playability.

I know the traditional series OM's are dovetail and glued in. I don't know about the PCH series, but I am betting they are also glued in. I can also say that owning both Eastman and Martin Guitars, the Eastman fit and finish is absolutely right on par with one of my Martin's and better than the other. The tone of my Eastman is also amazing. Not necessarily the same as Martin, but every bit as rich and pleasing.

I’d love to see a live factory tour hosted by someone. All I can find is these promotional type videos. Makes me question what’s really going on there. There are so many instruments stacked on racks in some of these videos, there is no way these few people at benches are making them all. This video doesn’t show all the instruments Eastman has stacked up. I bet they have more neck blanks stacked up than all the American companies combined. They do orchestra and band instruments too. Dealers that sell a ton of these should have access but it seems none of them do. The closest I’ve seen is a distribution center in CA called a factory.

I'm old (68), so I've had to learn not to be critical of some instruments because of where they're made. 5 years ago, I would have NEVER looked twice at anything made in China. However, if you're reading this right now, your device is made in China or maybe Korea. As is almost everything electronic. If you put a blindfold on and play not knowing what you're playing or it's history, chances are you'll pick the Eastman. I have the only Marshall amp (I think) that was made in China, the JMD 100, EL34's and a Swedish company's Preamp. It only models other Marshalls, and it sounds as good as any other Marshall, at least to me. I'd much rather avoid buying something made in Korea. There's something deeply offensive about people that eat dogs. Anyway, these guitars are extremely competitive, and probably better than most Gibsons.

If your fantasy included fresh paint on the walls, and shiny new workbenches then your fantasy was totally unrealistic. Eastman had been making violin family instruments for 20 years before they got into making guitars and mandolins. This stuff is handmade by experienced and competent craftspeople - not button pushers and assembly line workers. I see smiling people hard at work, not misery. You must be talking about yourself.

Sorry, but the obvious moldy working conditions and peeled off walls do not present them selves as a warm inspiring workingplace. I hope at least these craftsmen get a descent pay for their workmanship and time spent making Eastman guitars!

I am a master cabinet maker, in the UK, and know several luthiers as we all share a passion for wood and tools. This is what real workshops look like. They smell great too, of wood...A great workshop is one with light and a a bonus if you have space too. Also one where you have your own bench.

OMG what a dirty work environment...floor, wall, etc. Working eras are plenty of hazardous products, messy desk with a mix of dust and chemicals. If Eastman is committed to a high standard of quality I think they should start create a safer and a more human workplace environment !! It is not because you are in China it allows you to under value your employees. That might explain why your price are not cheaper than other American or Canadian brand.

OMG GO SEE Marty Schwartz tour of Gibson Nashville and see the paint sprayer not even wearing a mask. I guess that's why they cost so much...insurance pay outs. NOW GO WATCH THE VIDEO! But you won't, you'll find every reason in the world to not see it. Why don't you want to scrutinize Gibson? You watched this video and attacked it.

@@patricelongchamps9880 Patrice, good try. But let me say this to you. There is NOTHING WRONG with the Eastman work environment. Yours is a poor and insufficticated attempt to play the "Chinese Sweat Shop" game. And it's pathetic. Those Luthiers build some say the best Violins, Cellos, Mandolins, Archtop, Acoustic and Electric Guitars in the World. They are not being "beaten with whips" or forced by the "Evil Communist" to do Slave Labor. Working in a West Virginia coal mine is hazardous, not building guitars so just stop it!

@@harringtonbenton334 Don't get me wrong I did not disagree with you. I am not talking about the West Virginia coal mine which is historical in the US and well documented. I am talking about an American citizen (organisation) who just don't care about their employees and the work environment. I am talking about an organization who is trying to compete again other great builders in USA, Canada, UK...... China are not outsourcing their guitar oversea ? Any way if you like the Eastman Guitar vision and values it is up to you.

I've had many originating here in PA and the guitars I play most are "Pennsylvanians" lol Still, I would really like to compare the best of Eastman with standard D-28, D-18, OM-28, etc. I haven't had the opportunity. Mostly I've had Martin, Collings and Santa Cruz. Even with that experience I want to try their new Madagascar Rosewood dreads and OM's. I'm very curious to know if I will like them.

Disgusting? Hmph. I call it pretty "disgusting" for someone to criticize a video that they apparently haven't even bothered to watch to the very end-the place where videos traditionally display the appropriate credits. Yes, the musician is, in fact, credited.
