As a sophomore majoring in psychology, I have loved watching this professor!! My classes and subsequent interactions with my "peers" and professors are rather impersonal, so I feel as though I am in a classroom environment when I watch these videos, and he makes particular concepts easier to understand and brings entertainment to learning. I normally receive two chapters from an ebook, possibly one article, and two KZbin videos to watch for each unit (one week) of class. (I love the crash course videos) Thank you for sharing with us and posting!!! 🫶🏻

Do any of the personality types within the Cluster B category experience Cognitive Dissonance?

NPD , BPD, HPD do have it, towards their self-image and meeting their dependencies. Sociopaths and psychopaths can understand logical error, but they don't feel bad about it. They may smoke because they want to, fully realizing the damage to the fetus (the example from the video) or they may not smoke because it is logically incomprehensible to do something that doesn't support the achievement of their goal to have a healthy baby. If they will be put in a situation to be aware of a certain damage to the fetus and smoking is serving their immediate purposes better - they may decide to abort the fetus or discard the baby because it is not something they want to deal with. They have no monitoring and correction system in place to impulses and they respond to them. Unless they consciously take a step back, stop and think. They will understand (but not get anxious about it) that it's going to create more difficulties than an alternative. It's logically calculated and motivated by interest and not by emotion. Where an NPD for example is able to feel anxious when threatened by injury - losing all feeling of self-worth and privileges their delusion of flawlessness "entitles" them to - so anything that's experienced as a threat triggers reaction. Doing something that injures their idea of being flawless is rationalized pretty hard, because if not, cognitive dissonance is experienced. They have lots of logical fallacies developed as first defense to dissonance - one is being and staying high on the delusion of perfection. But because it is imaginary and inflated it crashes down in an instant - so the slightest threat is the end of the world to them and cognitive dissonance is mostly preempted long before it comes to having to be addressed with all sorts strategies hurtful to others (those who have the slightest regard and some feeling of security rooted in reality and objective truth). So cluster B call for extreme corrective responses towards they behaviors, and that puts neurotypicals in conflict with themselves. Therefore neurotypicals resort to resolve the conflicts of such interactions with rationalizing and excusing all away, because it just doesn't make sense ... anyways ... I hope I made sense lol ....

Here the professor says cognitive dissonance is the motivation to reduce tension or discomfort; Aronson (2016) defines cognitive dissonance as the state of discomfort...
@psicologia_e_reflexao
@psicologia_e_reflexao 3 жыл бұрын
Both things are correct: CD is a state of discomfort THAT motivates its reduction, what is called dissonance reduction.

@@maiajintcharadze7485 Yes. The classical comparisson is to hunger. Hunger motivates its own reduction.

@@maiajintcharadze7485 You are distorting what I say. You can read first chapter of Festinger´s book at Google books (A theory of cognitive dissonance), where he presents the theory, explain the discomfort, the motivation and the hunger comparison.

There's not necessarily any proof that their attitude changed. It's possible that they felt a little ashamed of lying for such a small amount of money, so they decided to hide the fact that they were even lying at all. So they could have deceived the experimenters to relieve their stress. Not to feel better about their behavior, but rather to feel better about how others saw them on the surface.
