As others have touched on, more people than ever are able to compose and produce music at home in 2024. With EW being the leader in orchestral samples, more videos like this are really needed. I know a second MIDI programming video is coming, but I urge you to make more. Just for comparison, Getgood Drums has emerged as a very prominent drum kit sample library company, and they absolutely saturate KZbin with instructional videos; it is clear that they want to teach their users to get the most out of their products. I think EW is behind the curve in this regard, and there are simply no other YT channels I've come across that really focus in on programming MIDI for EW libraries. This particular video, in my opinion, is by far the most helpful video on the internet for this purpose - please make more.

These videos are so important, and it seems like EW is the only channel putting them out. When you didn't "grow up" with MIDI, and are coming into it this late in the game, there are so many things that are left unsaid, that it's just assumed that everyone knows. It makes it hard to learn from the beginning. And even when you look for KZbin channels that are geared toward teaching beginners music production, those channels don't focus on things like this. EW, please keep these videos coming. We are loving them!

These videos are so important because of the complexity of the EW Hollywood orchestra. Im getting more out of this than most tutorials on KZbin. Thanks a million.

Despite being pretty fundamental I still gleened some important stuff here, particularly with respect to velocity dynamics. I realize I've probably been too heavy handed in general, but especially with percussion. Definitely going to try the philosophy of going light, then raising it up to the right temperature.

I swear, these videos are my favorite things on KZbin. All your track breakdowns looks these and what you did with the fantasy videos are so helpful, I learn so much, and inspired me to buy hollywood orch, and fantasy orch. And loved it

" your CC1 & or CC11 " do needs to look like a roller-coster ... all is said ... i often forget this & also that, the light version of a lot of patches both controlling these CC's at once Great vid Mr Thomas. Thanks.

Ryan, this is the best composition content on KZbin, hands down. Nothing else comes close. Absolutely superb and relevant lessons that I am able to immediately apply to my composition work. Thanks so very much for all that you do; it does make a difference.

Thanks Ryan. Great tutorial! I just find the series numbering a bit confusing: EW Academy 3: Orchestration Part 1 makes you think there is a Part 2, and EW Academy 4: Orchestration Part 2 makes you think you missed Part 1 !!

Hey this is a really great explanation can we get the midi for this demo to try ? Because when we get the midi it will be more good for us to learn so if you guys can release the midi for this demo it will be so great !

This has been asked many times throughout the years and as far as I know they won't do it, as opposed to say VSL which offers full project files with almost every new release.

For legato delay compensation: when moving midi notes, you said not to move the first note in the series because it would make it arrive too early. How do you avoid the same problem when using the negative track delay method?

Interesting way to deal with latency. My biggest problem in producing a song was the latency I got from the guitar solos or live performances, and moving the track to compensate is sometimes needed. Basically, it is an industry-wide problem, and I bet it gets worked out in time. For instance, I got a Code-50 Marshall Amp that plugs in via usb to the Daw, and my guitar solos are now as in tempo as possible, much better than the old usb interface.

I am fine tuning the timings with minor edits where it really needs to be better with Studio One. Or I set up a minus delay depending on the interface or the instrument on the track itself and now it is great then. But yeah it is still weird for me how in 2024 we have to make this many manual steps to ensure the least latency. (despite how many real time technologies we have with near 0 latencies)

By the way, when you say "trigger sustain" at 6:33, how do you do that? I thought that was pre-selected from the browser, either a Long or a Legato patch! Perhaps I am a bit confused. Thanks.

This is just a random question that i meam to ask support or what not..but will there ever be a revised Word Builder one day? I woild think with thr advent of AI tech making some killer aounding realistic voices that are articulate, I hope to see these improvements in anotherwise Suite of the most beautiful sounding soundware on the market

So many little details the manual doesn't talk about and nobody else talks about in any other video. I've been using sus and legato as literal how you would think. Any new bow is sustain and legato would connect the notes. So 1e&a.... As, do re mi fa, would be programmed sus, leg, leg, leg, never overlapping any notes. But see, these are the little details that nobody talks about nobody explains how to actually program all these midi instruments to achieve the sound they're supposed to. Even reading the manual this is what I came up because overlapping never seemed to make a difference in sound. I've been looking for this kind of information for over a year now.
