Thanks Ryan for these invaluable videos. I'm an old (very old!) rocker who's only in recent years got into orchestration. This is all a great help to me.

I've been writing and recording for a very long time. I really like these videos you are producing. Not only are they a fine refresher course and reminders of fundamentals (which we should constantly drill on) they are clear, concise, to the point, and engaging. Thanks for producing these.

Great tutorial! It's also nice and refreshing to see slower edits, time for reflection and well thought-through examples. Good job Ryan and EW!

Thank you, Ryan for making the entire EW Academy series happen. This series helps me a lot to untangling my confusion on orchestration. Your guidelines are excellent examples to learn first principles on how to do orchestration properly and intentionally, just brilliant.

This series is now pitched exactly where I am in my journey. Beyond the basics and shy of deep orchestration theory. Perfect, thanks Ryan. (I still use my Symphonic Gold instruments in my mixes, to this day they sound lovely!)

Fantastic segment! I absolutely loved the demonstration of the open and closed chordal structure, especially when used with orchestral sections (instead of just a piano). That was impactful and is now causing me to rethink how to wring more emotion out of strings, or other instruments, for that matter. Also, the advice on doubling of instruments was superb; this is something that is missing in so many discussions, but you really illustrated some nice pairings. Once again, outstanding material. Thanks Ryan and EW for putting these out. My current ComposerCloud subscription is directly tied to these videos and I'm continuing to discover just how much more I have to learn.

Really wish these videos existed when I started out years ago, great tutorial and those samples and the way they've been orchestrated are awesome, companies like East West have certainly raised the bar in sample technology to a very high level.

Very good stuff. To think of what is capable now with these virtual instruments, and at a price much more within reach for average people. How far we have come from FM synthesis or even simple wavetable tech. These academy videos really help to show what is possible when these tools are combined with know-how.

This is fantastic Ryan, I'm just writing music for a short meter movie and you help me very well... So I note that you have a orchestral template to work with, it's not really an Eastwest subject, but can you explain it in a new video ? Thanks a lot - DomsToo

Ryan, just a thought on chord voicing for example, it would be very nice if you could include a short list of "must read if you want to dig deeper". Now, I know there is a ton of literature on music theory out there, but I would be very interested in particular what books you found most influential when it comes to the science of all this.

Nobody can answer you on which inversion to use. Only your feeling will answer that. When you play enough with different voicings, you'll know which one will evoke certain mood or feeling and which one to avoid if it doesn't match your project's feelings. Bottom line, it's music in the end.

I have a question. I don't know if it will happen to other people, but sometimes an instrument disappears; the track remains but the instrument has disappeared from Opus and I have to load it again. I use Logic pro and like Opus I have updated to the latest version.
