This is a really good idea that I haven't seen anywhere else. Combining the villagers needed for a breeder and for an iron farm seems like a simple idea, but I haven't seen it before. Also, the use of checkerboard patterns is a really nice thing that helps make it clear how many blocks are needed in each place.

One plausable issue that could occur is having too many Villagers in the holding chamber cause a laggy mess when you go to AFK / Build it in your base and I think thats the pro of having them separated. What you might be able to do is have the villages go into a 1 hole block instead of a 3x3 container that way villagers will also take entity cramming meaning you will only have 24 of them in there at a time, this also makes for easier (well less time) for zombifcation as they are already weakened

I've seen it done before and done it myself without knowing people done these type tutorials online lol. Just made sense in my head like his idea lol. Although there's also the option of creative mode switching if you're not bothered about the achievements and have cheats activated (meaning you can just /gamemode change anytime) and doesn't mean it spoils the fun which people say either...All depends on what makes you happy and content whilst playing imo!

FYI for anyone trying this in a later version, the villagers cant breed when they are scared of the zombie so the solution i found was keeping up the extra layer around the zombie's head so that you can flip open the trap door when you want it in iron mode and flip it closed when you want it in breeder mode, cause the villagers will no longer have eye contact with the zombie so they will be able to breed.

Hey Impulse great tutorial! Not just for the subject matter of the video. But the video itself was very well put together, explaining how the mechanics worked and going at a pace that was easy to keep up with, Providing a few options if folks want to include certain aspects of the design or not, Keeping the editing very tight with the jump cuts that get straight to the point (probably the most important part), building in a grid like fashion so we can see block by block what you're doing and being able to pause the video when needed, even going so far as to explain how to catch a zombie for those in survival and how to put it in the basket. You really made this video a treat to watch, and it's clear you made this tutorial with the audience in mind that would be watching it. I give this video and tutorial an A+. Well done, great job!

I built this in my world recently . . . actually converted over an older door-based breeder that wasn't being used anymore. There is an issue with sustaining iron production but it's fairly easy to solve. The villagers need to have slept in the last 20 minutes in order to spawn an iron golem but they won't sleep if being panicked by the zombie. I moved my zombie 1 block further back from the villagers and created a piston-controlled screen to block the villagers' view of the zombie. A daylight detector can be used to automatically extend the screen every night so the villagers can sleep. Don't invert the detector itself, just use a redstone torch as an inverter in the signal path between the detector and the piston. I also included a lever as an override to allow me to shut off iron production any time I want. "Or" the signal from the lever with the one from the detector (after inverting it). It's important to include a row of blocks above the piston/screen setup and cover these with track to prevent golems from spawning there. But keep the detector open to the sky! Other tweaks and enhancements: * Another piston-controlled screen to block the farmer's access to the villagers allows the breeder to be shut off at will. Use another lever to control this. * Reduce the length of the lava blade to one block and position over the 7th block of the water stream. A row of 3 blocks at the height of the golem's head in the 8th position will stop the golem there with his head in the lava. Since the water is very shallow there, babies are less likely to jump up into the lava and be killed. * More hoppers to prevent drops from escaping downstream. It was probably overkill but I used 18. * Put glass block rooves over the farm and the breeding villagers to prevent lightening strikes from witch-i-fying them. * As somebody else mentioned, put the composter in the center over the water block and cover it with another block to keep the farmer from jumping up on it. I'm not sure if this actually changes the function but the symmetry is nice. * Give the farmer a bed. This doesn't seem important until you're trying to do some some work in/around the farm and he keeps getting in the way. 😣 Now I just wait till he's sleeping.

Just an FYI if people want to make it a little more efficient (at the small expense of convenience), have the drop lower (20 blocks below the villagers), so the Iron Golem is out of range and can spawn more golems faster :) Great design though, and glad to see you doing tutorials again ImpulseSV, it's been a while :)

Wow, your tutorials are really the best, going into survival for the important parts (so people don't just see "fill all these blocks with water" but actually "here's how you do it in survival with two buckets"). I also like the use of alternating blocks so it's easy for us to pause and count blocks. Very well done! I did have one question. I know that villagers have to be able to (albeit briefly) break their line of sight with the zombie so they can sleep, but I didn't see how that was accomplished. I mean, it obviously works because they sleep, I just didn't see how. Can you explain how that works?

Hey Impulse, awesome tutorial and great farm! I'm trying it out on Vault Hunters, and so far I've only had to make 3 minor changes (I'm new to minecraft, so may have just made mistakes in building): 1. I had to move the lava blade further along the tunnel, as baby villagers were bobbing into it. For me, the upper signs are directly below my stair blocks, and the lava blade's final part is above the hopper line. 2. I had to cover my farm with blocks so that golems weren't spawned in there! 3. The trap doors on the zombie side of the upper beds made a little platform I had a daredevil baby villager run across and jump from into the zombie's basket. Simply closing (making them vertical) those 2 trap doors has fixed this. Thanks again!

A few suggestions if i may : - you can put the composter in the middle of the field, but don't forget to put a block on top to prevent the villager to jump on the crops. - you can remove the solid blocks under the beds - in order to reduce lag and increase babiy output, you can use a clock to only scare the villagers when they are ready to spawn a golem.

Hey Impulse, I'm having some trouble with the villager breeding part. The iron farm works fine, even better than I expected, but only one villager spawned right after I built it but afterwards they just stopped spawning. I'm using vanilla minecraft with vanillatweaks but none of them should interfere with the breeder. Do you by any chance have an idea why this is happening? (A zombie also made it into the villager part but I took care of that with some lighting around the edges and AFKed for 3 hours, still no villagers) edit: I'm playing on Hard mode on a server UPDATE: A single villager spawned after 4 hours, it seems a bit slow. I thought at first that it was because the farmer didn't actually provide them with food but they did, seeing as there are for some reason carrots in the golem collection chest. I might try to add another farmer to speed up the process, but for that I would need to find a way to stop the two farmers from breeding. I'm not sure if villagers have to be close to beds in order to claim them or just have eye contect with them. If they only need eye contact, then I would have to switch the glass blocks around to farm to solid blocks. I'll try this out in a creative world so I'll probably be back with another update later. If anyone is sure that they know the answer to this, it is of course very nice if you tell me the answer. UPDATE 2: After a small accident I learned that the farmer and new baby villager actually managed to claim the beds on the sides (the ones that are meant bait the baby villagers into falling down). I learned this because I accidently let my farmer escape and it died. I already had one villager in the collection chamber and only after the farmer died, a new villager spawned. After this, no more villagers spawned. Although... You would think that you would only be able to have 5 villagers at a time. I tried testing this by killing the villager that I had collected in the collection chamber. After that a baby villager managed to get into the little box the zombie was in. After this, no more villagers spawned. So I am stuck again. UPDATE 3 (more like a follow up note): What I now see is: - Villagers breed rarely. If they breed, they show the green particles a few times and then it takes either very long for them to breed (longer than 1 hour) or they do not breed at all. - The villagers are often running to the zombie, it might be nothing special but it is strange behaviour to me as they should run away from the zombie. - It might be a coincidence, as I changed the "unclaimed" beds on the side every time I gave them a ton of food, but they only seem to breed after I changed the beds. When linked to the observation above about the green particles after breeding, you can speculate that perhaps every time they breed, they claim all of the beds or the beds are reclaimed or something weird is going on with the bed claiming mechanic. - Even though the farm is completely in a desert biome, the baby villagers seem to be spawning with the Savanna reskin. I have two (2) Savanna villagers and one (1) Desert villager in the breeding chamber. This observation might be noteworthy to me due to my lack of knowledge about villager breeding and the impact of the parents' reskins on those of their kids. Some extra notes: I am playing on 1.18.1 Vanilla Server with Vanillatweaks datapacks and crafting tweaks. None of the ones we selected should be interfering with the farm but maybe some do so without me knowing about it.

I want to cover it up in a building and placed a glass layer 9 blocks above the ground floor (where the golems should spawn) that should work fine right? Having built this with the golem pool at ground level, it costed nearly nothing to make. I was have two issues, after two babies, the breeding stopped entirely, and after about two stacks or so of iron, I'd have toe fiddle with the trapdoors to reset the villagers. Trap door flipping did nothing for breeding. To fix the breeding issue, I simply lowered the spot where the villagers were deposited by 3 blocks. This pulls them out of vertical range of the beds and they lose claim. And then I opened the trapdoor under the glass, so it blocks view long enough for them to breed. For the golems, I found moving the monster (I used a pacified pillager) one block further aware and putting him in water so he bobbed did the trick. Water is placed on top of the trapdoor with trapdoor at same level as in the video. Double the height of the barrier trapdoors and place his roof one higher so he can pop up over the edge. _

Main reason it's not done is because these are considered starter farms and people like to move on to larger megafarms. It's still a neat idea to combine space and honestly not bad for just a casual solo/duo world.
