Hi there, and welcome to another video tutorial, suitable for absolute beginners. This wire wrapping tutorial features a simple wire wrapped bead link, where the wire encases the bead with a pretty wave effect. I have included complete step by step instructions, and also a step by step on how to create the little clasp for your necklaces or bracelets, so I hope you find it instructive and helpful.
Materials you will need:
0.7mm (21g) wire - for the links
Or, 0.6mm (22g) or 0.8mm (20g) it's your choice.
1mm (18g) wire - for the clasp
Flush cutters, or nail clippers
Bail making pliers or round nose
Chain nose pliers
Flat nose pliers (optional)
Bench block and jewellers hammer (for the clasp)
Ruler
Thank you so much for your support of my new channel. It's lovely to see so many of you here, sharing in this beautiful craft of jewellery and accessories making. Hope you have fun making these little beauties, which are fabulous for bracelets and necklaces, amongst many more uses.

Loved the video. Great direction. You make it look so easy. Tried a couple links and realized my wire gauge was too big and tough to wrap. I found some smaller gauge wire and it was a bit easier but I need to keep practicing so my wires don’t look beat up. It’s a challenge to use a tool in each hand at the same time (I’m not very coordinated) but I’ll keep practicing and folllowing your example.

I was glad you included the bit about work hardening. Might be good to say that too much work hardening actually can lead to brittleness. I use a pair of hard plastic bench block slabs, as well as a leather hammer and a plastic head hammer or plastic jawed pliers instead of metal tools for the come-in-with-ers to work harden when I don't want to flatten the metal. For findings, flattening can be good to provide more stiffness in a certain direction. Sometimes the hammered look is not desired, and the directional bias is not desired, and the softer plastic tools allow for work hardening like that. The hardening is slower, btw. A very hard wood can work for this as well. If the wire presses right down into the wood it is too soft. Back in the 90's I made a good amount of wire wrap jewelry. I had a wrapped bead bracelet design that sold very well among coworkers. In fortch the pattern could work loose after many wearings. I may resume wire wrapping and am looking for a different wrap pattern. I may try this one. BTW, I used sterling silver wire. Even more popular than nice stone beads, glossy black (American) football/ rugby ball shaped glass beads were the most popular. Black is so versatile, and contrasts nicely with silver. I recommend trying that color combo, whether for personal use or resale. It is very appealing and versatile.
@samanthalatimer1
@samanthalatimer1 8 ай бұрын
Hi Dennis I very much appreciate your experience and your very kind words. I do use a leather hammer for some items as you’re quite correct in that it hardens but keeps the shape of the wire without the flattening. I do love the flattened look for some pieces. It’s really good to have your experience, so thank you for taking the time the time to give us the benefit of your knowledge.
@DennisHicks78749
@DennisHicks78749 8 ай бұрын
OH! Another thing to be aware of is that since the findings are lighter than the beads, they will tend to float to the top of the wrist. If you're ok with this, it's a good idea to make the findings worth looking at. Alternatively, you can weight the bracelet near the clasp/ findings. I experimented with some extra wrapped beads that dangled from the findings. I also made a need from heavy gauge silver wire that was heavy enough to keep the clasp hanging at the bottom of the wrist. Each option has pros and cons. Of course, using sterling for ballast is kinda pricey! The next thing I was going to try was to substitute a wound sterling silver wire bead for the beads on either side of the clasp so there would not be anything dangling.... Of course, still kinda pricey. Making sterling silver dangley beads lets you make them an optional add-on that you charge for. Those that want them can have them, those that don't won't have to pay extra, and gives your bracelet a wider potential market.

Hello! New subscriber, really enjoyed the tutorial, thank you! Can i ask, what size beads you used, to get the cutting measurements for the wrapped loops? And how do you measure different sized beads to the length of wire needed? Best wishes, Anna.
@samanthalatimer1
@samanthalatimer1 Жыл бұрын
Hi there and thank you for subbing ☺️ So I used 6mm beads here, but you can use any size really… 4mm up to maybe 10mm. As for the lengths of wire, you pretty much just go by eye. For the 6mm I maybe use around 3-3.5in lengths. You want to ensure you have a comfortable amount with which to wrap. So to begin, I’d advise using just slightly more than you think you’ll need, until you get the hang of it, and then you can make the lengths a little shorter. I find if you use a longer length, your wraps are much neater and more uniform 🥰
